Under ideal conditions, what style of testing would you recommend?
(A) Kill MCQ. Problem solving is very critical in many disciplines (especially engineering). This skill can’t be tested by MCQ / “objective” format. Ergo, go back to the old “subjective” / “descriptive” format for all tests (especially JEE).
(B) Keep MCQ. A very small fraction of answers in a question paper can be guessed. MCQ’s benefits outweigh whatever downside caused by guesswork. Ergo retain MCQ where it’s being used currently (e.g. JEE).
(C) Expand MCQ. Being in the right place at the right time with the right answer is what matters for success in real life. Change all descriptive tests to MCQ (e.g. tests inside IIT).
