What is the most accurate about the design and results of this study (CRITICS)?
Patient’s completion of the planned adjuvant treatment was high (more than 80% of the patients with resected gastric carcinoma completed the adjuvant chemotherapy and/or chemoradiation regimens).
Although the documented rate of margin positive (R1) resection was low (~10%) following chemotherapy for both groups, the pathologic complete response rate was also low (less than 10%).
Postoperative chemoradiotherapy substantially improved survival in patients with resectable gastric cancer treated with adequate preoperative chemotherapy compared with postoperative chemotherapy alone.
The rate of significant gastrointestinal and hematologic adverse effects was significantly higher in patients who received radiochemotherapy compared to those receiving chemotherapy after neoadjuvent treatment and resection.
