He competes passes.....doesn't turn the ball over..... Gives our team a solid chance by not killing us with stupid mistakes....

Only time will tell whether or not he's the future of our franchise but one thing is for sure.... He's captured the heart of Steeler fans everywhere.

    Let's go Duck

The first preseason game I watched Hodges in, I remember telling a friend that he looked like the better of the three backup QBs. I was reminded that it was only preseason and they didn’t think he would turn out to be good, just another camp arm. Hodges was cut then resigned. After the injury to Ben and Rudolph’s struggles I was very high on Hodges being a quality starter. Even became a bit of a conspiracy theorist, with why they went away from Hodges after the win over the Chargers. Stating the organization was loyal to Ben and could see a potential replacement in the Undrafted rookie. Luckily for Hodges the organization dislikes losing, my belief was that they wanted to get by with a winning record and the playoffs were not a necessity. They would let their you g players develop and wait for the return of the franchise Quarterback. Now that I got that off my chest, Hodges is making plays you see from veteran Quarterbacks at this level of competition. He is very smart, hits his check downs when the big play isn’t there. Doesn’t hold the ball for an eternity, doesn’t panic when the pressure is on. Ball placement on his throws is better than most of the top drafted QBs of this years draft. Going back to the Arizona game look at the 50/50 ball he threw to Cain. High and away from the defender, of Cain doesn’t come up with the catch it sails out of bounds. The DJ touchdown, the ball was placed perfectly into his hands on a laser to the pylon again away from the defender. He isn’t afraid to pull the ball down and make a play when needed. He also has handled some bad snaps, recovering them and making a play. Hodges isn’t without flaws, he has had some difficulty sensing pressure (the strip sack). He has gotten too aggressive and trusted another rookie to be exactly where he was supposed to be and threw a bad Int. But overall I could see this guy becoming a starting Quarterback in this league. May for the Steelers and may be for another team. In the end I believe this will come down to three things. 1)performance through the rest of the season and a potential playoff run. 2) Bens health 3) cap space. To elaborate on cap space, Hodges plays well takes Pittsburgh to the playoffs and maybe into the second round (with an injured offense). The Steelers then look at the recovery of Ben, an aging QB with a large contract, unsure of what is future holds they could go with the younger cheaper option. CAP SPACE they could go with the cheaper option, allowing Pittsburgh to free up money to sign key pieces with the option to expand at other positions. Bud Dupree contract year, best season of his career, they may have any to ensure he stay in Pittsburgh. It’s definitely possible but there are a lot of variables however, I’m a fan.

Some people just have a knack for winning and Duck is one of those people. Is is too early to tell if he can and will be a long term starter. However, I do believe he belongs in the league and will be a valuable asset to the Steelers or another team. He is the kind of guy of want on your roster.

QB of the future? He’s the current starter and he’s maintaining a high level of efficient success partly because of the outstanding play of the defense. In other words, he’s rightfully taking full advantage of the opportunities that are presented to him each week by the defense and not turning the ball over in ridiculous situations. Something that both of his predecessors did, and sometimes on a weekly basis. He repays the defense and the offensive line with smart, but aggressive play and doesn’t turn the ball over. Truthfully, that’s all this team has ever needed in a long time. A QB that leaves everything on the field for his teammates by not carelessly squandering his opportunities to have a positive impact on the game. And he’s only going to get better as the season goes on. Yeah, he has my vote for QB of the future.

Slow the breaks. Let’s get thru this season and see where it goes. At least there will be competition next year and that’s always good. Ben and his ego have run there course. But is DUCK the answer? Only time will tell. Keep in mind while he “hasn’t killed us” we are winning with Defense Go Blitzburgh. .

The Duck is for real...Steelers are real lucky...He's a diamond in the rough a needle in the hay stack. He.could have beaten Lamar Jackson...had he started...its amazing that he plays so well as rookie.
