How Important Is Optimization In A D&D Character?
Of absolute importance. I'll only play a character that's as beefed as the DM will let me get away with. I want to play the most effective character at all costs.
Very important. I don't want to be "Pun-Pun" or anything, but I won't play certain classes or options because they're suboptimal.
Somewhat important. I'll play any race/class, but will try for power synergies and good feats and whatnot (e.g. no Endurance unless my chosen prestige class demands it!)
Of little importance. I don't really want to die so I won't deliberately nerf myself, but pretty much I let the character concept do the talking.
Not important at all. I am happy playing a syphilitic simpleton.
