For years I watched my grandmother sew, she was a professional tailoress and dressmaker and made most of the clothes for my sister and I As a teenager I experimented with making some clothes but was in too much of a hurry to make a decent job of anything. Now, I need to make my own clothes as I now live in a country where it is difficult to get good clothes at real prices. Patience is the key for me taking time to fully understand what patterns require and taking my time. I have been surprised how much knowledge I did not know I had. Of course it would be easier if my sewing machine instructions were not in Greek! But I'm getting there.

Practice, practice, practice. You learn by doing. Eventually you will develope your own techniques. It is not written in stone that you have to do something a certain way!!! I am a professional and , believe me, I took a lot of classes and attended a lot of seminars, (the last one the teacher commented " I don't know why she is here, I should be taking classes from her!" Most of all, I developed my own shortcuts and techniques.
