Hey Andy, my name is Tim too and I have no idea who the other people/person is as well. I know it's hard for people here to imagine more than one person being critical of the band. Go figure.

  • Andy - 15 years ago

Yes, there is something strange about some U2 fans here in that they like to pose as different people. Not sure if Timothy is doing that. Who cares, get a life...

  • DaveB - 15 years ago

Well....both Timothy Dannenhoffer and the one supposedly using the identity feel it is their purpose in life to personally attack and insult anyone who has anything critical to say about u2. Two different people? I would be shocked.

  • Andy - 15 years ago

But Timothy, how do we know YOU'RE the real Timothy Dannenhoffer? Or even that Timothy Dannenhoffer exists at all?

    You lot are weird.

  • Timothy Dannenhoffer - 15 years ago

I'm probably the ONLY Timothy Dannenhoffer in the United States and I DID NOT write the comments dated 8/17 and 8/18 - I stumbled upon this site doing a google search of my name.

I will be looking into who it was who has been using my identity.

To the person that runs this site I'd appreciate it if you IMMEDIATELY removed the comments that were SUPPOSEDLY from me - dated 8/17 and 8/18.

  • Andy - 15 years ago

Given that U2 fans are usually so pompous and sanctimonious, there's a surprising amount of venom here - shame you don't use that energy doing something constructive rather than arguing the merits of an inconsequential band.

  • Timothy Dannenhoffer - 15 years ago

    Dave Boooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggggg zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

And here is something else for the amusement of anyone who cares to read. Its actually quite funny. Here are some reviews of NLOTH posted on amazon along with Timothy Dannenhoffer's Glorious responses:

    By G. Belmont "designer"
It is too late for me. I am already asleep. It started when a coworker put this album on in the office. Many times you don't really get an album until the third listen, and I can keep an open mind. I have no problem tapping my foot to the 10,000th rotation of Joshua Tree (in the office). But I can already tell this one will bore for days to come.

I agree with the other reviews that suggest it may be over for U2.

While I may not be a `crazed' U2 fan like so many others, I do enjoy much of their music and was really excited to hear about this new CD. As the release date drew near and I eagerly started reading many great reviews about it, I truly thought I was in for a real treat this time. Unfortunately that just wasn't the case for me. I have spun this disk twice since purchasing it and have absolutely no desire to spin it again. It was a huge disappointment to me.

You'll find the A-typical U2 sound, with its many layers and distinctive style, but the band does absolutely nothing with it - the CD has no spark - no passion - it's simply boring and forgettable.

When I think back to "The Joshua Tree" or "Achtung Baby", I remember sitting in a room intently listening to every single note that rang out. I was completely enveloped by those albums. On the flip side, with this new CD, I can't see myself spinning it when I'm washing my car or cleaning my house. It doesn't even rank as decent background music.

With most U2 albums it's obvious that the band put a lot of hard work into them, they are passionate and inspiring. Not here. I'm wondering if U2 has grown complacent? Have they run out of ideas?

I have always wanted to see U2 in concert, never had the opportunity until now - I just purchased tickets for their upcoming tour. I look forward to hearing many great songs, and I guess I should be thankful that I'll now have several songs for bathroom and refreshment breaks too.

The only song I actually like: "I'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight".

    Timothy Dannenhoffer says:
    You're a moron.

Bottom line the Joshua Tree and Actung Baby are their best works. I think this was way over rated. I love U2. I have their entire catalog and seen them in concert.

I was very anxious to get this album and after playing it several times, its gone back on the shelf. At best C- or D

    Timothy Dannenhoffer says:
I'd get it back off the shelf if I were you AHOLE.

So you see folks. We have a genius on our hands.

  • DaveB - 15 years ago

And Timothy, I would love to hear your defense for what your heroes did to the fans in Boston.

  • DaveB - 15 years ago

Hey Timothy! I see you have begun your campaign against me now. Are you going to wish me dead, too. You see, the difference between us is I have valid points that I make that are critical. You, however, resort to name calling (ahole, idiot, moron, bore, etc etc.) Im sorry to see that bringing up valid points "causes you trouble". And please do tell, since you are such a fan, which U2 song gave you the idea that it is ok to personally insult people with degrading names. Please continue to be such a wonderful representative of the band.

  • Timothy Dannenhoffer - 15 years ago

DaveB or Da Brando Chipper as you go by on Amazon, you are truly are sanctimonious bore. You ram your self righteous opinions down everyones throats all over the place and interfere where your comments are not welcome. It is clear to see that you side with people out to cause trouble with U2 fans which you clearly are not. Why don't you just shut up now please and leave this site, we DON'T want to hear your opinion for the hundreth time.

  • Tim - 15 years ago

DaveB. I forgot all about that fiasco for the filming of the Elevation DVD. Good point. That was F'd up. As far as which song I'm most 'excited' to hear on the tour? Excited is the wrong word. But if I had to choose it would be 'Magnificent'. The thing I'm most suprised about is they aren't attempting to play Fez. I thought for certain they would play that one live. I don't even have tickets yet. I'll get one on the day of the show. Hell, people are basically giving them away on graig'slist I heard!

  • Andy - 15 years ago

I'm with Davey B on this one.

Forget the music for a minute, part of what made U2 so special was what they represented. These days they seem to represent a strong desire to make as much money as possible and not too much else.

As for the music, I don't like their new LP - some people do, some don't. HTDAAB was OK in parts, and one half of ALTYCLB was excellent. They're slowly going downhill.

  • DaveB - 15 years ago

So you think they are in it for the love of the music, huh? Check out this review of the Elevation Tour Live in Boston DVD posted on amazon. I did some digging and found the story to be true.

I found this review of the Elevation Tour CD on amazon. I wanted to see if anyone could verify the incident.

"By Rick Johnstone (USA) - See all my reviews
In the last few years, I feel you've changed, and this was hammered home completely today.

The crack first started during the Elevation Tour, during the Boston Show. Die-hard fans lined up all night long to get the best General Admission in the house, right up on the stage. No one thought it was their due to have that ticket because they were the biggest fan - they bought the ticket and stood in line all day and all night to have the #1 spot. This show was a little different - it was being taped for the DVD - and right before the gates came open something happened. People came out and began picking people - pretty people, young people, to go to the front of the line. Can you imagine how that felt to the people who have been your fans for years? Who stood in line all day to get that spot? You're not good enough, not pretty enough for the video. That was the first time, to me, it was not for Love, it was for Money. You see the result of it in that DVD, when half the heart sits down for part of the show. Sour grapes? Maybe. But a betrayal from a band we trusted.

The crack that started then has blown wide in the last few months.

From 'AN OPEN LETTER TO U2' "

This goes against everything U2 supposedly has stood for and U2 should be ashamed of themselves. They want young, pretty fans on their DVD? Seems they forgot about the 4 ugly old farts on stage.

i think no line on the horizon is a brilliant album. it's unlike anything they've ever put out, but i guess you could say that about almost any U2 album. i agree that there are some small parts of this album that must be attempts at people-pleasing, but isn't that a necessity at this point? i mean, i guess that's obvious, with all of the strong opinions and analytical critiques on it. i've found no line on the horizon to be truly enjoyable to listen to. isn't that what really matters?

it seems that this is such a hard band to follow, especially since they're been together for so long. if you listen to any of their past albums and immediately listen to something more recent, it's astounding how different the songs feel, yet they're the same amount of UNBELIEVABLE. it's hard to realize that now. although U2 is no longer what current music defines as "amazing," the way it did some years ago, they will always have what they had then, and they will always be one of the greatest bands in existence.

  • Adrian - 15 years ago

The problem here seems to be relevance in the new generation. Many of us have "grown up" with U2 and appreciate their evolution. Yet, there are many in the younger generation who do not know U2 exists. So, how does one maintain economic persistence while maintaining relevance????

Personally, I love NLOTH. I cannot appreciate some songs as others. For example, I do not like FEZ. However, I do like others such as MAGNIFICIENT. I also like the jazziness of BOOTS, but I do not think it is an "A" grade like other U2 songs. Overall, NTOTH is a decent album - - not the best, but not the worst, either.

One way, or the other, we are looking forward to our concert!!

  • DaveB - 15 years ago

Now now Tim...when someone says something like that, there is an easy thing you can do to calm yourself down. All you have to do is....cry....or is it spit? ...or is it get on your boots...no wait...just go crazy tonight...no no no...its sit down....no its stand up FOR YOUR LOVE!!! Geez...just so many choices!!!

  • Tim - 15 years ago

"and the lycrics are phenominal" o boy here we go again! lol

  • DaveB - 15 years ago

carron: I wish I could share your enthusiasm for No Line. I tried. But after months of listening, I feel it is the worst of their career. Im glad you like it, though. But to think u2 has not tried to please fans at all is a very difficult statement to defend. Do you not remember the week long stint on Letterman? Or the short concert aired on Good Morning America? U2 has always tried to please their fans. U2 is very concerned about what their fans think. There is nothing wrong with that until it becomes an attempt to be all things to all people, which is what they were trying to do on No Line. Pitchfork said it best when they said No Line wasnt so much an attempt to win, but an attempt not to lose. But I am not a u2 hater. If I listed my 10 favorite albums of all time, three are u2 albums. They have certainly hit greatness more than most bands ever will.

  • carron - 15 years ago

sorry but i don not agree with dave or col blue- i think NLOTH is one of the best albums U2 have made! musically it is amazing and the lyrics are phenominal, every song touches some thing in the soul! i dont think U2 has tried to please fans at all! i think they are true to them selves and to the heart of theyre music. it is great that U2 fans have very differing opinions hey?
but me myself and I love this album to bits and ive been a U2 fan from zero.
    love ya all xxxx

Hi, Dave B - what you`re saying is true, and I agree with you in that point. But, in a certain degree, NLOTH isn`t a typical U2 album. There are some moments in which they sound totally relaxed, almost like some experimental prog-rock band. Stand and Boots are, generally, stoopid songs but... U2 are still, beside everything else, corporative mainstream band (and corporative machinery does affect their music, in a negative sense).

Just to add - my favorite songs on this album are Fez/Being born, Cedars of Lebanon, No line, Winter, The Unknown Caller. I don`t know. It would be great if they would record another Passengers album. But, we`ll see.

    Greetings from Serbia.

Cobalt Blue said : "I think they should stop thinking about music charts and radio hits. They should focus on music and that is what I think they did on this album."

I disagree. They added I'll Go Crazy and Stand Up to the album in the later stages over the protests of Eno and these songs were blatant attempts for radio attention. I'll Go Crazy's presence in a Blackberry commercial is further proof that U2 is concerned about attention in the media. I have to take Eno's side: those songs stick out like a sore thumb. There is nothing wrong with radio exposure or a commercial using your songs...I would want to make money myself. But U2 is clearly still thinking about music charts and radio hits. Unfortunately, I think U2 was consciously trying to please all their fans with this record, and in doing so, produces the most contrived album of their career. But hey, at least they still have a stellar back catalogue that few bands can touch.

  • Cobalt Blue - 15 years ago

Hi, I think that NLOTH is one of U2`s best albums, though it doesn` have hit singles or anthemic songs like "One" or "Stay". "Get on your boots" is one of their weaker songs, but it doesn`t spoil the impressions.
Music is great, emotions are intense. Arrangements are rich, Larry and Adam are very inspirated. I think they should stop thinking about music charts and radio hits. They should focus on music and that is what I think they did on this album. On NLOTH you can hear 4 musicians playing in a relaxed manner, very 70`s type of atmosphere. Eno`s and Lanois` production is brilliant.
    It sounds different, somehow.
I was surprised when I heard it because U2`s music over past decade, in my opinion, was niether exciting nor thrilling. I love their Achtung/Zooropa music and so this album is a step in that direction.
Hope to hear more of u2`s work with Eno and Lanois, maybe even The Passengers vol.2.
    Greetings from Belgrade, Serbia.

It would fantastic to start the show off or encore with Fez....

  • Steve - 15 years ago

Why I read comments from people who have no idea what they are talking about befuddles me. I should know better.

  • DaveB - 15 years ago

As to the above controversy surrounding Miracle Drug and Unknown Caller...I skip them both.

  • capthowdy - 15 years ago

people around me were completely bemused by the Crazy remix. Stupid to do a remix that people will be generally unfamiliar with, especially since the album version is, I think, a pretty good song.

I think that MoS is a good song but a crap closer. Again, people around us left feeling a bit flat. I overheard people talkling about this on the way out of Croker on the two nights I was there..

I reckon that Breathe is a Thin Lizzy 'Black Rose' tribute - love it.

Boots - I hate it. Everyone I know (I mean in person, not on the bleeding interweb) hates it. Live, our bunch STILL hated it. It's ought never to become a classic It's got an awful vocal melody and lyrics that stink - these two things screw the song right up. I know yer man likes to babble a bit but he's taking the piss with this one.

Agreed, I think UC pisses all over Miracle Drug.

They played 6 or 7 songs from AB to kick off the Zoo shows and they kicked ass. I agree though, Breathe is a brilliant song but no opener. I thought NLOTH should've opened the show.

  • Theresa Flannery - 15 years ago

Well, I am pulling for the darkest of dark horses. I want to hear "Breathe" more than any other song off NLOTH. The Edge's guitar work here is an homage to Jimmy Page and other great rocking guitarists of past and present...but also could really ONLY be the Edge. This song is such an intense song...reminds me a bit of "Desire" in its hypnotic feel. I adore this song! Not to mention the lyrics are such a great "wink" at the fans! C'mon..."Breathe" is the greatest!

  • croni - 15 years ago

I'm sorry, Unknown Caller is a million times better than Miracle Drug
I wished they had played it when I saw them (other than that it was a perfect set list)
I saw the Friday Croke Park gig
Moment of Surrender is an amazing closer. All the people I went to with, about 6 of us, were really impressed by it, and for a few it was the concert's highlight ( I can't stop listening to it now, i really liked it before, but now I absolutely love it)
Boots is a pretty crap song but it is much better live, kinda fun ( i still feel the bit "You don't how beautiful" part kills the song stone dead)
I'm not a big fan of Crazy, but live they've completely changed it and it's amazing, definitely one of the highlights of the set. really don't know why they didn't include this version on the album. Adam's new bass line is superb
All the new songs they play live are great, but I think it's a problem that they play 4 songs from No Line at the beginning. It kinda makes sense, cause you have the audience's good will but at the same time they seem like they're getting them out of the way. maybe if they played one song somewhere else on the set list and changed the sequence. the sequence is still not 100% at the beginning. Breathe is a great song, but not one you start with, although its kinda cool that it starts with Larry on his own. But that the only benefit. The bside version of No Line is definitely the one to play live
I can see them changing it a bit for the North American Leg

  • Pedro - 15 years ago

I do not like Unknown,Caller is like Miracle drug, all the others are beautiful ... I love hearing FEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wog - 15 years ago

I am stunned at the lack of interest in Boots. While I realize it isn't likely to be a hardcore U2 fans favorite song, it'll likely be phenomenal in a live context. Personally, I am excited to hear Fez.

  • AppleEye - 15 years ago

Interesting to see Moment of Surrender initially ahead of the pack. I actually like "No Line on the Horizon" better
