Do you use F-Spot?

Tried F-Spot once way back, hated it. Basic editing done with gthumb, major done with Gimp (used to use Photoshop before I discovered Linux, Caldera to be exact) I had a copy of PS8 running under wine, used it once and un-installed as I find the Gimp more versatile once you add the various plug-ins.
Just finished installing gthumb 2.11 (I LOVE it, well done guys) can,t wait for the final version. That would be far better the F-Spot imho.

It's all about Picasa for me. RAW work is done in RawTherapee, but for everything else, Picasa is perfect.

I have all my photos on a central server and view them from multiple computers/laptops/netbooks. If f-spot could work with a db backend on samba shares, I think I would use it.

F-shot is a poor imitation of Picasa and why anyone would chose to use F-shot over Picasa is beyond me. OK, Picasa is Google-owned and therefore not "free" but if you want something resembling complete software it has to be the way to go not F-spot.

If I want to edit a photo I certainly don't reach for F-spot, Picasa would be first followed by the Gimp.

Yes I use F-spot as a photo manager.

No, I don't use F-spot to edit my photos, GIMP does that much better.

I do not use F-Spot at all. Three main reasons:

    1. I prefer to organize my photos in my own manner, rather than having to follow F-Spots' imposed date-based multi-folder complexities.

    2. GIMP has more and better tools, organized more clearly and efficiently, to allow me to edit, resize, fix and adjust photos.

    3. GIMP is Free and Open Source. F-Spot is encumbered by an association with the dubious Mono libraries.

I frankly prefer to clear all Mono apps off my Ubuntu installation ASAP. Substituting gphoto and GIMP for F-Spot and Zim for Tomboy fixes this issue, now that Banshee is not the default music manager. All of these apps are arguably superior to their Mono-laden counterparts, so there's no pain and all gain.

IMHO, F-Spot should be removed as default in Lucid, and GIMP left in, if one has to be removed. If not, retain GIMP. I've gotten more graphic arts focused folk interested in Ubuntu by showing them GIMP than by any other means. A free program that does virtually everything Photoshop does -- I run out of CDs quickly when they see that. F-Spot has no comparable Wow! factor.
