What does a map in a fantasy novel do for you?
I examine the map to get myself oriented before I start to read.
I examine the map after I’ve finished the book, to see where I’ve been.
While reading, I flip back to the map to remind myself where we are.
While reading, looking at a map helps the action seem real.
A map has its own life. I find places the text never visits, and imagine what they’re like.
I look at the map once, then ignore it.
Something else. I’ll explain in the comments.
