I think iPad is too diminutive and connotes another iPhone variant. It needs "max" in the name to make it seem larger, so I vote "MaxiPad."

Apple "TouchPad" Yes, it's the TouchPad.....Even better: LaunchPad!
iTablet - no ring
iPad - feminine hygiene
iBook - like it, but I don't think they'll turn back the clock
Macbook Touch - They'll want to save it for a Macbook with a touch screen
iSlab - sounds like a brick
MacTouch - it won't be a Mac
TouchPod - Good name for an iPod Touch
iSlate - I can't get over "is late"
TabletMac - won't be a Mac
MacTablet - ditto. But a nice ring.
TouchMac - See above. Saving that one for laptop with touch screen.
Mac Pad - Not a Mac
MacSlate - Nice ring, but only if it's a "real Mac" Is that what it is?

"Is late" - we have been waiting for Apple Tablet for several years,
but, if it will be introduced in January, then it's not too late.
I'm confident that this Tablet would be extremely popular
(maybe even more popular then MBA)

I thought of Newton 2 then I thought Galileo in the lineage of Newton. The Adam was a no brainer since both Newton AND Adam had something to do with Apples yes?

I voted iBook 'cuz I thought reusing a product name would be sort of cheeky. Because, I mostly wanted to see what others thought.
But, if this device runs yet another version of OS X and does not run Mac OS X apps, using "Mac" in the name would certainly be awkward.
I also, thought of Pad/Pod. Which would extend the TV nomenclature.

I noticed something when it was reported that Apple owns iSlate.com and tried to go to that URL to see if it re-directed to Apple. When I saw it without the intercap: islate.com it reads more like "is late" which would open up the product to some initial ridicule/jokes from the retarded windoze fanboys.
I doubt that SJ would let that slip through, though he may not care.
IsLate.com
well, I guess if you are reading this, you know all the rumors that go back YEARS and may think that is appropriate ;^)
I thought a different name from the list would be more appropriate and voted other. The name I entered was Apple Padd.
My reasons are that this product does not really belong in any of the existing categories. It is a new category unto itself and therefore should be a version of iPod or iMac or MacBook or iPhone but should reflect its own uniqueness.
I used the company name to start to be very clear that this is an Apple product and use the cachet of the Apple brand.
I chose the product name Padd because the whole thing reminds me strongly of the data devices used in StarTrek the Next Generation. Something that can be trademarked, I expect and have echos of the future.
