Will you continue to fly after body scanners are introduced?

C'mon Canada! What the hell has been happening there since I've been gone?!? So because the US has certain security protocols, we must bend over and take it up the...you-know-what? What happened to a word called "sovereignty"??? So because Americans take a generous helping of crazy pills from the paranoia of terrorism, we must follow them like a lapdog??? I guess I naively thought we were separate countries...

I know there are many people in Canada who say "well I don't mind" or "it's for our security", all I know is there has not been a terrorist attack on Canada. They already scan our bags, put us through the metal detectors, make us take off our shoes, limit liquids to a 100ml, what is left? Is it too much to expect that someone besides me, thinks how ridiculous this is? How many rights are we willing to forfeit for the appearance of safety.

You may think I am the one overreacting. But please remember the chances for you dying from terrorism in North America is infinitesimal compared to dying in a car accident. Are you willing to give up cars for our general safety?? I didnt think so.

I am uncomfortable with the radiation, the naked images and if you refuse, the rather *ahem* intimate groping by some minimum wage workers. F&%k that!

Maybe there should be more attention paid to who is allowed a passport.

a large population will not like to be strip search. if half the population say goodbye to air travels - be very sure plane tickets will double. tourism will be destroyed.

I WILL NOT EXPOSE MYSELF OR MY DAUGHTER TO THIS LUDICROUS SYSTEM OF VIOLATING OUR PRIVACY RIGHTS.

INSTALL ONE AT THE WHITE HOUSE IF THE SYSTEM IS SO EFFECTIVE-Surely Obama wants to know no one is sneaking weapons into the White House. Would Obama like the naked images of his wife an daughters being viewed by some strange man? Of course not but what good for the citizens should be used for the President too--you know UNITED WE STAND IN FRONT OF THE SCANNER TO VIEWED NAKED--or isn't the President willing to have his loving wife and daughters violated this way.

I don't think he or anyone else should have to have their family exposed like this--ITS DEMEANING especially for women who are menstruating--what about pregnant women--will this hurt the baby or has any one of the men who are pushing this through considered these facts--OH YEAH they don't care as long as they can get off watching naked women and children all day.

Get ready Rental Car Companies for all the people like me who will be banging down your doors to get a car--I'D rather drive extra time and keep my privacy in tact than to pay to be sexually/visually violated.

There are no jobs where I live and as Congress cuts unemployment benefits--I would have preferred a piece of the 25 million that they just spent to install these scanners--that would have been a good stimulus check.

I'M DISGUSTED and I'M APPALLED MORE PEOPLE AREN'T SPEAKING UP!! I HOPE THAT OTHER TRAVELERS FROM OUTSIDE OF THE US DON'T COME TO THE US FOR THIS VERY REASON--THAT SHOULD HURT THE AIRLINES.

    WHO'S PROTECTING OUR RIGHTS?

  • Jason - 14 years ago

My wife was wondering how staff will be treating women who are menstruating during a full body scan? The scanner will obviously show that a foreign object is present. Will airport staff be doing physical strip searches of all women who are menstruating and wearing feminine pads to insure that there are no explosive materials contained in the pad? As it is a possibility that a female terrorist could be hiding these type of threatening materials in such a manner will our government be keeping us "safe" by inspecting every incident where this occurs?

I can't believe people's response, this violates our rights, women and children are being scanned naked, what if they said let's stripe search everyone, people wouldn't like that but it's OK to have the scan and images of our naked bodies instead, are you nuts!! Also, the airport that the "terrorist" in Amsterdam was at had body scanners, he got on the plane without a passport, where are the videos of him going through the check points?, this is big scam to take our rights, If I have to fly I will refused to go through the scanner, people are laying down like sheep, this is a way to control us, people will give up all their rights in the name of "safety"! I'm sick of where this Country is headed, we need to stand up to this, it's total bullshit!!!

I was wondering, what is going to happen to us with surgical metal in our bodies? eg. disc fusions, broken bones held together with stainless steel pins etc.?

Even though we have scars to indicate previous surgical procedures, and letters from physicians stating so, is this going to be a realistic hurdle for future travel?

  • concerned cdn - 14 years ago

I used to work in the field of airport security and when we flew at Xmas time I was shocked to see how relaxed the security has become again since 911, we are just asking for trouble.

  • concerned cdn - 14 years ago

I think all those people that don't want to be scanned should go on one plane and all those that don't care on another. If you have nothing to hide, what is the problem. In my opinion they can't do enough to keep our airways safe. I used to work in airport security and it's scary what people think they should be able to take on the plane.

  • fortherightsofcanadians - 14 years ago

this is stupid and i will refuse to be scaned. you can check me with the usal wand search. this scanner will do nothing for the airports or human rights
big brother is watching and hes getting pushy, creepy

well, I don't see any reason to give MY MONEY & TIME to a freaky, xenophobic human-rights violating nation.

The US has seen their last tourist dollar from ME.

There were more human rights in the Shawshank Redemption than the US will allow us to have in 5 years!

This disgusting trend is appalling: moreso that Canadians are stupid enough to put up with these demands from the US.

To hell with them: if Americans like being treated as gulag inmates or a LockDown Stazi nation, that's their business. I'm stunned Canadians are that pathetic as to put up with it.

But they won't get my money or my tourism.
If I find out that Canadians are PAYING FOR THESE SCANNERS, I'll be utterly disgusted. It would figure that Canadians would let Americans steal their rights, then demand we PAY FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF IT!

ENOUGH ALREADY THIS IS ABSURD !!!!

How are body scanners in Canada going to stop a guy from boarding a plane in Nigeria and lighting his panties on fire again ?

This job will attract pedophile and perverted Security Guards who will be watching and perving out on your wives and children's naked genitals, because a retarded Nigerian patsy was escorted onto an international flight (according to eyewitness Kirk Haskell by an Indian handler) without a passport and lit his underwear on fire in a staged attack to bring war to Yemen ?
Had normal procedures been followed this fool would not have been able to board the plane. This thing stinks beyond high heaven.
This bogus, patsy staged, attack does not give anybody the right to violate taxpaying citizens like this.
This is not what i want as a Canadian citizen. Losing my way of life because of false flag staged operations by mercenaries working with traitors.
We don't even get a choice in the matter ?
The London Guardian is reporting that kids can't go through the scans as it would violate England's child porn laws.
Here's the real reason why this should be looked at, Ex-Homeland Gestapo Chief Michael Chertoff owns shares in the marketing company that is pushing these while he is also conducting interviews on TV pressuring and campaigning for government.
The Terror Industry is as bad as the terrorists and even more responsible for the loss of our freedoms at home. They have the politicians hog tied, if they don't buy the Big Brother apparatus they will be called Soft on Terror by their opposition....all this while we destroy our own way of life at home playing into the enemy's hands.
Eisenhower warned us about the military industrial complex.
Do you believe him yet ?

PS it's being reported that these scanners cause irreparable damage of your DNA.

Do NOT AGREE TO BE SCANNED.

I think pollsters ought to get ready to post another question, one that asks: "Would you be willing to fly completely naked, with zero carry-on luggage and only government-approved pasties applied by airport officials to protect what's left of your modesty?"... Things certainly seem to be heading that way.

  • Parksville Don - 14 years ago

Bruce Barlow great comment! Personally, I could care less how many times I have to go through a body scan as long as it helps ensure the plane does not fall from the sky. Right now it appears that without the proposed body scan, a terrorist has a good chance of smuggling explosives on board a plane by hiding them on his/her body. Other than a full strip search, I haven't heard of a better method than what's being proposed. Dogs don't always get it right as they can be fooled.

How much RADIATION is emitted with each scan?

  • Edmonton Vic - 14 years ago

Is anyone of you out there prepared to sacrifice even one Canadian life so that you would not be delayed or bothered??

  • BRUCE R. BARLOW - 14 years ago

I would like to see a second poll asking the question 'Would you continue to fly if body scanners are not introduced on international flights?'

  • Sabrina Merrett - 14 years ago

Yes, I agree with the introduction/use of body scans. If this is going to keep our country and its citizens safe, yes. We have to do what needs to be done. Look how easy it was for that young man to get on the plane in Detroit. Security should also be looking at trains, buses and subways as well.

  • Patchou - 14 years ago

People also hide things in thier bodies, Will people submit to cavity searches too? In the name of "safety"?? This is crazy! It's proven that dogs do a better job than scanning. Then if you're sniffed out, go for it, search/scann/cavity search whatever.

There is NO way I would leave a stranger scan my little girl/boy!

Since when do innocent people presumed guilty until proven innocent? That is what this is...you're guilty, now pass threw the scanner to prove you're innocent...What????

  • JP - 14 years ago

I do not any problem for the body check, at the end of the day, it is my safety.
