I'm not getting one yet, but I'm pretty sure within 2 years everyone will have one instead of a laptop!

I also feel they missed the mark but don't think apple doesn't know that either. They want people to come back and buy another one. Think about it being such a small form factor and having good touch capabilities what other features can you throw in? Minimal design differences? No the video conferencing on a 2nd generation unit!! I'd believe we have a good chance on seeing it. Also it comes down to them not wanting to lose notebook sales either due to the ipad.

    I like it!
I think if Apple makes the deals with all the text book companies, that includes some kind of a subscription for students per year, the iPad will go viral. Every student will use it instead of lugging 40 lb.. of books around!
Not to mention the interacting with the text to web.
I also have mixed feeling that it didn't come with a camera. But that being said it probably is good that it didn't, privacy in the class or board rooms sometimes prevent camera phones from the proceedings. Also down the road maybe the bluetooth will give you audio input and the port at the bottom the link to a camera down the road.
    I will be getting one.

Well, my kids are all over it, and it sounds like their friends are too. They see it as an iTouch on steroids. This may be where the market for iPads go. That and specialized uses, such as telemedicine, for example.

in response to pannys comment about the raving of no camera. I find it obvious to rave about the missing camera. first of all, think about who will use this device. Most likely it will be people who wants to bring it along for say a trip. In this case its obvious you will want to communicate the 21 century way, that is with a camera. secondly why would one omit the very thing that opens up the device for communicating and sharing information in such a usefull way. In our company, we rely heavily on visual communicatin (we are designers).
The third reason is they should have launched it with a bang, like they did with the iphone, exactly because its a new category all together, thus you should not immit the camera, it deflates the vision.
Our company wait for it til next launch.

Can't believe people are going on about the video camera... how many people actually use video chats? (apart from the 'novelty effect' of showing off that you can do it once or twice). If it was such a desired feature, it would be on all cellphones.

A revolutionary device would have contained the functionality of a laptop in the case of this elongated iTouch. I'm talking a version of Mac OS 10 (please-businesses do not speak 'iWork'); USB, firewire, and ethernet. For the non-business user, a camera would have made the difference. I think Apple just couldn't fit all this into the slick form, so it all was left out. I've been a Mac user for 18 years but am not one of those who will buy the coolest form over actual functionality. I'll wait for iPad version 4.0.

    iPad + MacBook = iSlate ;-)

iPass on iPad - It looks annoying to handle and type. Great for books and photos, but hardly worth the hype!

iPhone + MacBook = No iPad

I will wait until it includes a camera and microphone for audio video chats via iChat and Skype. I am dumbfounded that such an obvious feature of a device such as the iPad had been omitted.
