Mariusz winning the poll is just an indicator of general ignorance about the sport. There is so much more to strength athletics than WSM, or being aesthetically pleasing. Big Z is a clear winner here based on volume and quality of wins, and duration of career. It would have been great to see the old guard compete at ASC against him.

Magnus was certainly the thinker, he seemed to be able to figure out these events...If not for a slip on the husaffel stone he would have won 5 titles....

I also picked marius, not cos he won 5 ; that final stone was poundstones bad luck, too quick off the floor, ;) but mainly due to the wins in his first few where he was so far ahead he didn't need to compete in the final round to win despite doing so. I feel those performances and his overall conditioning strike me as him being just so far ahead of anyone else at the time. That being said i almost went for big Z who has, across the board more 1st and 2nd place finishes than anybody in the sport. I just got more of a buzz to go and train way back when i first watched marius, so my choice is as much influence than it is statistics.

I voted for Mariusz as I think he dominated a really strong field for a long time. I even think he would fare well if he competed today. I'd give second place to Magnus ver Magnuson his competition was not as impressive but his results were and he never looked strong or athletic either. Jon Paul would be third as he revolutionised the sport and was very charismatic. In 4th place my favourite BIG Z its a real pity he was out for around 3 years as I used to believe every year he was going to beat Pudzianowski. He may well climb the list if he gets another win but competition is better than ever now. Bill Kazmaier comes in fifth for his competitiveness he was also a character but competed in weaker fields. Up and comers Brian Shaw, Derek Poundstone, and Laurence Shahlei could yet be future winners

    The Capester!

There are others out there with bigger arms, faster times and more impressive feats to their name, but I have a real soft spot for Geoff Capes. He's a UK institution.
