I had hoped that when they finally interviewed that girl that seems to be in charge of the protests, that she would denounce the violence. She didn't and has lost the support that I had for the protests. I really felt for the legitimate protesters who weren't afraid to show their faces. I have plenty of criticisms of VANOC and the IOC myself, but rioting during the Olympics accomplishes nothing, and turns sympathizers away from your cause.
And by the way, you keep spouting “No Olympics on stolen native land” and battling corporations. So which part of the NON-First Nations land do you walk on and live on? And where do you think your food, water, clothing, electricity, tents, buses and medical help come from? Cracking skulls is not an option but I do feel where you're coming from. It wouldn't break my heart one bit to see them get messed up for their actions, however, I believe the police are acting in a proactive and professional manner while doing their best to stay within the parameters of what is acceptable by law. Watching the footage left me feeling disgusted. This is coming from someone who never really necessarily agreed with the cost of what brought the Olympics here. But now that they are here, there is no point in trying to destroy what so many good people have worked so long and hard to accomplish. This includes everyone from the world's athletes to organizers to sponsors, etc. The protesters we witnessed are nothing more than a radical style cowards of which any intelligent person can see clearly through. Police need to arrest and detain all those who conceal their identity and intimidate the public. I am 58 years old and have paid taxes for 40 years These taxes have paid for social programs which support the less fortunate, homeless and unemployed protesters. I donate to to several charties as well. I am able to do this because I committed myself working and paying my way.
The Olympics give good tax paying citisens a chance to spend a little of their tax money on entertaining themselves and not just to carry unemployed protester on our backs.
