what the hell is this all about????Everyones situation is different i understand saving and have through the years but for a rainy day.this is more like a damn tornado.19 years in the same house and yes we were offered money and took it because interest was cheaper but the tycoons roped use into ballon payments at the time that made sence.someone should have been involved as a third party in the process that could have explained it to us(young age) and make us understand what we were signing.we were looking at the end result cash........so do i feel bad ubout thinking about walking away hell no....not when you fall behind and all the morgage company's want is payment by a certian date shure pay it but how can you squezee blood from a turnip??

I still can't believe people thinks it's okay to walk away from a home and their financial responsibilities. This is the reason the country/economy is such a mess. Many people bought homes they couldn't afford with risky adjustable rate mortgages. When the housing bubble collapsed, people started to walk away from their homes or asked for loan modifications.
It's sad to see that people who took the biggest risks are now asking for bail outs thru loan modifications and the people who bought homes the "right way" (large downpayment with fixed rate mortgage) are suffering.

Buying a home and using that home as collateral for a loan are two separate transactions. Your creditor is not your partner in a real estate investment. You have no more right to expect him to share in your loss than he would have to expect to share in your profit. If you break your word to repay a loan, you should be marked as untrustworthy (literally "discredited"), so creditors can can decline you in the future. Otherwise, those whose word is good will eventually bear the cost of your unreliability in the form of more expensive and less available credit.

I agree with your sentiments and at this time in my life do not think that i would walk away from a debt I agreed to - BUT, like others, i am frustrated at what is going on with this country and I empathize with the people walking away from their obligations - i consider it often. I have worked my entire life, put myself through school, lived responsibly and saved for a rainy day and do not get the same benefits from the government as people who lived beyond their means, committed fraud, etc... etc..... At this point in all the bail out crisis, fair is fair, and if the people who have worked hard and lived responsibly, the only people not benefitting from all this craziness want a piece of the action so they don't have to clawback to get to where they were 5 years ago then more power to them!!
