Please open the pools! My kids look forward to summer fun and swimming at thte pool is a large part of that. Summer is for having fun and enjoying the outdooor life here in MI. If the pools don't open I fear that several children are just going to sit inside for cool air and watch TV rather than be active for the summer. With MI being one of the leading states in over weight adults and children, I don't thinnk that is wish. Fine Mi, might be poor, but let us be healthy.

    Oops.

That would be a savings of $730,000. Not $630,000. My bad.

Why donations? Because I'm not convinced city pools are an "essential" public service. Desirable perhaps, but not essential.

Why Millennium Park rather than city pools? Because the city's pools are rather expensive to operate.

If you look at the operating cost ($1,000,000) divided by the number of uses (45,000), you get a cost of just over $22 per pool visit. That's rather expensive! Suppose GRATA had an hourly bus line out to Millennium Park. You could buy a round-trip bus ticket ($3) and pay the entrance fee ($3) for the city's youth and seniors... times 45,000... for $270,000 -- a savings of $630,000! Plus, you'd be supporting public transportation, and a local community resource (MP).

Whether its paid for by the taxpayer, or by donors, it's important to get a good value for the dollar!

Why ? Would you take money that was donated for the pool for the children..Just asking.....

Open the wading pools and splash pads -- they offer a lot of bang for the buck.

Perhaps look for donations to offer free bus service and entrance fees to Millenium Park.

OPEN SOME OF THEM. IT GIVES CHILDREN AND SENIORS SOMEWHERE TO GO DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS (TO ESCAPE THE SUMMER HEAT)
