Though the Los Angeles Times finished a close second, I find that it presents the most balanced level of ease and difficulty. Progressive simplicity to impossibility leads to disinterest. I, like others, was under the impression that the voting period extended through the fourth week. Consequently my opinion was not counted. An extension of the voting period seems to be in order for a representative opinion. Please choose the puzzles that present balance, thus affording to average solver a challenge rather than simplistic/baffling frustration.

I did not know you were closing off the vote before you ran the final 4th week, so I did not get to vote. If I had voted I would have voted for the Los Angeles Times puzzle. The current puzzle you are running is absolutely RIDICULOUS on Saturdays. Anyone who can do the Saturday puzzle must be idiot savant. Sorry, but you should, at the very least, run any other puzzle on Saturdays. As to the rest of the current week's puzzle, Monday to Friday, is too easy for me. The Sunday puzzle has always been tough, but do-able. I've been doing the Times Pic crossword puzzles for 10 or more years and this current puzzle you have been running now for the past year or so is not the best selection you could make, in my opinion.

I like the United Media Syndicate crossword puzzles or the Los Angeles Times puzzles, weeks one and two.
I hope one of these will be published as the permanent crossword puzzle to run in the Living section of the TP.
Thanks for giving all of us avid readers a choice.

(Sorry, thought we had til the end of the week to comment.)
Newsday is the best, even though weekends are too difficult.
Weeks 2 & 3= too difficult all week.
Thank you for continuing to publish the puzzle despite hard times.
(And of course your news coverage, e.g., current Oil Spill, is much appreciated.

The LA Times puzzles are head and shoulders above the others. I didn't get to vote as I was out of town and didn't realize yesterday was the last day to vote.
    Hope LA Times wins.

I have been working crossword puzzles for at a minimun of 30 yrs. Most of us are not like the experts that create them. I look for puzzles that have the same level of difficulty throughout the week, not one that a 3rd grader can solve on Mon. and Tues, and by Saturday it is harder than Chinese arithmetic. In my opinion the current puzzle that is running in week four is a joke. The L. A. Times puzzle is only for the experts. The puzzles that I found most challenging, and required a lot of thought , but were workable are the ones that appeared in week one and week two. Either of those would be fine with me. After all the fun of working crossword puzzles is the accomplishing of being able to solve them and get gratification.

I BEGAN WORKING CROSSWORD PUZZLES WHEN WE HAD TWO PAPERS, I ENJOYED THE ONE FROM THE CHICAGO TRIB. THAT WAS IN THE ITEM. IT WAS NOT FULL OF LONG QUOTATIONS, AS SOME OF THESE SEEM TO HAVE. JUST WORDS WOULD BE NICE.

I agree with Ervin. The Newsday puzzles are relatively simple Monday thru Friday. Sunday is on the money, but Saturday seems to have touched down from another planet. The clues and answers evolve from a completely different mind set than the rest of the week. The LA Times puzzle has been the most gratifying so far. I look forward to working it daily. Thank you for the time.

Please keep the Week 4 Newsday daily crossword puzzle in your newspaper. Weeks 1 to 3 puzzles were very difficult to work. I have just begun to enjoy working the puzzles and find I can normally do the Newsday crossword puzzles for at least the first 3 or 4 days of the week. However, they do get very difficult on Friday and Saturday.

I never underestood why the TP eliminated the L.A. Times puzzle when it cut back to one puzzle daily. It was always the best puzzle. Hope it continues.

The Newsday Daily puzzle is too difficult on Saturdays. The Los Angeles Times is the most diversified. Although it is difficult toward Saturday, I find it gratifying that I can complete it by building word by word. I hope that it will be the permenant one.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment.

I have enjoyed working the crossword puzzle in your newspaper for many years, inspired by my father-in-law, decided I could do them too. I like the puzzles you have been publishing, the Newsday-do hope my vote counts and we keep this one. Found the others too difficult and used words and vocabulary that was very unfamiliar to the average person.

I have been working the crosswords for about a year now and find the others extremely difficult to work. I gave up on week 3 and couldn't figure out many of the clues on the others. I seem to have a better fit with Week 4 Thanks
