Linda, being from the UK also, I must correct you; there may not be that many guns but they are present. From shotguns to those held by MOD, MET and other forces. All because of crime and the increased import of illegal guns; none of which have a thing to do with a US Policeman having to put down this mad Husky because it attacked him. The laws in the US are quite different and as shown here, a bunch of cause freaks jump in and a policeman is now facing charges for defending his life from a crazed mut.

I thank God I live in the UK where anyone carrying/using a handgun in a public place would be considered the criminal without any question! Perhaps because I live in a country where guns are not commonplace (another thing to be thankful for) but I am horrified that anyone, never mind a police officer, would think that shooting a dog in a public place is anywhere near acceptable.
My husky x is as much a part of my family as my son.....as I'm sure Bear-Bear was to his people. I pray that they are able to come to some peace after such a horrific and tragic loss!

Anne, he is a cop and carries a gun for not only his protection but yours. Cops are required to have their gun 24/7. The earlier poster said Huskies are #5 as the most dangerous dog, I didnt beleive it and checked, they are 100% correct.
Is it sad that this dog died? sure is, but now people like you want to try him in public. The cop was defending his life and that of his dog. Do some reading and see that as a cop he had to have his gun. By chance he needed it.

Who brings a loaded gun to a dog park? The shooter lived near the dog park. He had every intention of using it on someone. There are less lethal ways of dealing with an aggressive dog, which this one was not.
This shooting was totally unjustified.

I have checked and the last poster is right, Huskies are one of the most dangerous breeds of dogs around. They have mauled countless children and their owners; they are listed on insurance and rental firms lists as not being allowed due to this.
How is it that you folks are able to buy into the BS some idiot posts claiming the dog did nothing, it did and was put down to save life!

This guy and his dog were ATTACKED by this crazed husky. The person who was "watching" it did not come to help, he just STOOD there in shock. Posting cute pictures of a dog is like posting cute pictures of a killer; anyone can be made to look good, but a photo does not show how a dog is; in this case: violent, aggressive and not under control.
The owners of the dog are rolling in cash and just want to inflame emotions. You are buying into it.

I rarely take polls and rarely ever post public comments but this situation begs for both. I spent several hours reading through the site and on Facebook; only to be shocked. I will surely get yelled at but I don't care, I want to be heard.
The other person asked and I must ask: what is wrong with you folks? The man who shot the dog is getting death threats and may loose his job because you animals forced the AA County DA to press charges. None of you were there yet you speak with the voice of someone who was. You would judge him based on your emotions, half truths and conjecture. Shame on you.
I am not a cop and I hate guns but I know cops carry their guns for their and our protection. When I asked my neighbor who is a State Trooper, he explained the bullet used to put the dog down is a standard issue police bullet and designed to not go through and hurt innocents. We talked about this for about half an hour and he said that the Army cop will likely be fired because people cause such a fuss and even though he had every right to shoot the dog, Maryland political issues and the unfair pressure you cause will be the cause. Just what we need, another cop out of work and others afraid to act out of fear not of the crack heads who ruin the neighborhoods but fear of ignorant people like you.
In closing, anyone ask or audit the owners of bear bear site where all this money is going?

WHat is wrong with you people? None of you were there and yet you pass judgement on the cop. You are free to have an opinion, this is America but this country requires you not pass judgement. Bullets, psych tests, what in the world. Dirty hippys!
We believe that it's unlikely that this dog posed any grave threat to another human or another canine at the time, although we've only had one side of the story. Huskies play hard, and if you don't know them you should reserve judgement. We're also astonished that this man is not being put through an intensive psychiatric assessment. Baltimore residents should be in fear at this point - officers of the law are sworn merely to uphold it - not make it on the fly. Any gun-toting person who's displayed exceedingly poor judgement should be suspended, and fully investigated. We send our support and thoughts to those affected by this tragedy.

Rest in peace Bear-Bear!! There is divine justice and your killer will sooner or later, here or beyond, pay back in exponential proportion for taking your precious live. I agree with Patty who says that killer needs to lose his gun, his job, and definitely his dog. Hope justice is served!

Who goes to the park with a weapon? Only someone who had all intentions of using wiether if was on a kid or a animale.

No matter how you feel about dogs or bear-bear specifically, my biggest concern is that this man pulled a gun out in public and felt the need to shoot someone or something. That's what scares me the most.

I think that the fact that Bear-Bear was well-behaved enough to be allowed to play leash-less, and the cops dog was kept on a leash, speaks volumes. I am curious, is the German Shepherd a trained K9 dog?

Absolutely true. I am also a breeder of Siberian Huskies in SC. I have 23 and they are all my children. These dogs are not aggressive at all. My grandchildren will lay down in the yard and the most these dogs will do is maybe lick you to death. I have strangers visit here often and have never had a problem. This story has made me sick. This guy needs to lose his gun, his job and definitely his dog.
As an experienced Breeder, Trainer, and Owner of 11 Siberian Huskies, I can without a doubt in my mind say that Bear-Bear's death was totally Uncalled For! It was a result of a trigger-happy arrogant person who knows very little about Dogs. Sadly, in my opinion, he also has NO common sense about where and when to whip out his gun with Hollow-Point bullets and use it, either. In other words- the ONLY dangerous thing on the night of August 2nd at the Dog Park was the shooter!
