Yuck. None of these people seem tough enough to be believable in the role. I would look at the girl who played the lead role in Winter's Bone (dye her hair black). She's the right age, can act, and is tough (can pull off the Appalachian look--which is NOT delicate/girly-girl).
Thank God Kaya is in the lead! None of the others are up to the challenge, and we dont need some newbies trying to show off their wild side at a movie like this! Too many mistakes and flaws. Just Saying. =')

I think the best person to play Katniss would be Lyndsy Fonseca. She looks the part and can act. She's perfect for the role.
Please, none of these actresses suit the role. Keep looking and remember, Katniss is only 16 and is very under weight. Dakota Fanning is an amazing actress and would be perfect for the role. Just slap on some Miss Clairol and she's good to go.
I think, if we're going for a bad ass beauty with tough skin and ACTING abilities, EMMA STONE is the only choice! For those of you who don't know who that is, watch Zombieland. Once i finished the books and realized that they were going to make a cinematic version of this story, i knew right away who should be cast. Emma stone all the way, hands down.
Ninja should've won!! Kaya can't act! Search Nina and find a video. She would make a much better Katniss. And if you're going only as far as looks, just as Katniss is in The Hunger Games, prep teams can practically TRANSFORM you, Nina can be transformed to fit Katniss PERFECTLY :]
I really don't know who any of these girls are except NONE of them really fit the profile of Katniss. I do think that Alexandria probably could pull off Katniss. I just DO NOT want the girl from VD in this movie the last thing we need are fangirl's from VD going to see these movies JUST because she's in them and quite frankly I don't think she can pull off the role

I personally LOVE Willa Holland. She can act great, and she is pretty but no gorgeous (like nina), and she has the gray eyes and skin. You would just need to die her hair.

I don't really think any of these people fit... While I love Emma Watson, she is going to scream Hermione no matter what she does. (And her appearance doesn't fit "The Seam Look" anyway)
And please not Alexandra Daddario! While she might look more the part, she ruined Annabeth Chase (from the Percy Jackson series) for me. I don't know if it's just because she looked nothing like Annabeth or because she acted nothing like Annabeth or just because she wasn't a good actress in general, I really don't want that to happen again.
Whoever plays Katniss has to be spot on for this movie to work.
Anna on Vampire Diaries (I think her name is Marese Jow) should play Katniss.
No one famous should play Katniss or Peeta or Gale. I'm stern on this point. They should hold auditions open to the public... And get some press so I can see it. I... *sigh* can't even imagine this as a movie. I think it may ruin it.

i would say nina would be a good role for katniss, she's doing really good in the vampire diaries playing 2 parts as Elena and the evil Kathrine. To me she would be really great as the role of katniss
okay, all the people out there who are saying that katniss needs to be an unknown actress, yeah you're right. kaya scolderio IS AN UNKNOWN ACTRESS. she just does british films. i've never heard of her and i think she'd make a perfect katniss. just give her some gray eye contacts and shes perfect.
Chloe Moretz would work for Katniss, this should be in pre-production enough time for her hair to grow back.
I think that unknown actors should be cast so that audiences can go into the theater without preconceptions about the movie.
I would love to play Katniss. I have been in theater productions since I was little, and as soon as I read the first book, I felt very connected to the character. I am Katniss-age with dark hair, and if I got the part, or an audition, I would work very hard to make sure I portrayed her accurately. you people are so stupid. you can't say "she'd be perfect for the role!!" just because she looks like Katniss and the same goes for all the other characters. most of those girls are terrible actresses minus the one from the lovely bones but i know she can't pull off tough good enough. she's just too whimsical. now i would be a good actress and even though i've heard it 1000000000000 times, no, you can't just think you can play Katniss because you look like her. i'm an actual small-town actress that's been in commercials and the lead in numerous plays (i just got Marian in the music man yesterday) and i actually know how to use a bow and arrows. so stop being dumb and if you want a chance to be Katniss do some acting jobs.

Anyone who has seen series 4 of Skins should know that Kaya's acting skills have plummeted. None of these actors have the correct look - they don't have dark enough skin. They really ought to cast an unknown. Most of these choices are far too old anyway.

I dont think they should pick an unknown actor unless they can really act. I am in love with the books and I want people who don't like to read to love the movie. I want the viewers to love Katniss and personally a really great movie can be ruined by a really awful actress. An unknown could be a really awful choice and could not only ruin the movie but ruin the rest of the movies and the reputation of an absolutely wonderful series. If they pick an unknown, she better be the best actor you have ever seen.

So, I just saw the article in the magazine, and they said they're considering Kaya and Alexandria because they were the top choices.
That's...ridiculous. Have they not noticed that more people want an unknown Katniss than anything? There wasn't an unknown option, or I'm positive that would have beat the others by a long shot. If they put a well-known in the movie, it's dead. There's no hope for it. People don't want to go to the movie and say: "That's so-and-so from "insert movie/TV show here" and she's playing Katniss." They want to go and say: "That's Katniss!"

remember that katniss is short, ( one of the shortest of the 24 tributes in book 1) and she has long dark hair, olive skin, and gray eyes. i dont want any disney star or anyone who was just in a really popular movie (like kristen stewart.....) pllaying katniss.

NONE OF THESE WORK! Saoirse ronan even if you died her hair and gave her contacts she wouldnt look anything like katniss. Demi lovato?! really some actors are best left on the disney channel. Nina dobrev isnt terrible but she is too pretty. Aleaxandra daddario is a terrible actress and not and she looks too old. Dont get me started on kaya! everything about her screams city girl and some things you cant cover up with make up. also (though i havent seen her act myself) I hear she is a terrible actress. I've always said they should do what they did for Harry Potter. Cast unknowns for the leads/teens and famous adult actors for the adults. That way the characters are much more believable cause their faces will be fresh in our minds.

None of them! I think that they should cast an unknown, and probably do open casting calls. None of these work. They either don't fit the part, can't act (Demi Lovato especially...seriously that smile annoys the heck out of me), or are too old. So no,no,no. An unknown please!

She's a great actress. Saorise and Emma are amazing, too, but they don't have Katniss' look. The rest are mediocre actresses. Kaya may not look exactly like Katniss to some of you, but she's close enough and her acting is superb. And Katniss is going to need some great emotional acting.
Aleandra would be perfect at the part i believe i love all the other actress' but i dont see myself wanting them for the part as much as alexandra and her whole persona doesnt portray a childly figure i believe shes more of a mature actor and the rest are either vampired up--->> nothing compared to this. Child stars. Or they look like a 14 year old.!
LOL Maya, did you ever even read the books? Suzanne Collins reiterates multiple times that Katniss has the classic "Seam Look." That basically means, she's olive skinned, dark haired, and light eyed. Not pale and Snow-White-looking.
i think demi would be perfect for the role. i mean she's supposed to be a slender, pale skinned girl. Demi is very pale, and she can act her butt off. it would be a great chance for us to see her do something real for a change.
