Should Social Security recipients get an increase in 2011?

President Obama announced, according to his 2011 budget proposal, to provide federal workers with a 1.4% cost of living allowance. Why the feds, and not those on social security? Working feds have a full income, while social security recipients are, for the most part, on a restricted retirement income. Eggs, milk, and gasoline cost the same for both groups. Where is the equity and fairness?

It amazes me how this so called "government of the people" has such a poor regard for it's seniors. Not only does this so called "governement of the people " have enough money to give each other a raise of millions but donates millions of dollars to Pakistan, a country that harbors terrorists and yet refuses to give it's American seniors a cost of living raise. This is no longer a "government of the people" and I hope that people go out a vote come this November in order to bring back "A GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE".

I think Social Security should be based on individual income. Some people don't need a raise. People who are getting over 1,000 a month may be able to survive, but those drawing less that the average should be brought up to the average. I know people drawing over $1,000 a month and still working making several more thousand. They do not need a raise. Retirees drawing only 6 or 7 or 8 hundred should get the raise. Groceries have increase, Electricity has increase, insurance is impossible to afford. So come on look at the figures and lets give low income people a break!

IF CONGRESS WOULD MAKE EVERYONE PAY INTO SOCIAL SECURITY// THE PEOPLE WHO EARN $190,000.00 AND UP SOCIAL SECURITY WOULD NOT BE IN TROUBLE. STOP MAKING ONLY THE POOR TO PAY INTO SOCIAL SECURITY SINCE ALL PEOPLE RECEIVE THE BENEFITS. IF THIS COUNTRY CAN SEND OUR TAX DOLLARS OVERSEAS TO HELP FOREIGN COUNTRIES THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO HELP US HERE IN THE UNITED STATES.
WE PAY INTO SOCIAL SECURITY IT IS OUR TAX DOLLARS. WE DESERVE A COST OF LIVING INCREASE EVERY YEAR.

MANY SENIOR CITIZENS ONLY HAVE SOCIAL SECURITY AS INCOME. THE COST OF EVERYTHING IS GOING UP ; HOW ARE WE SUPPOSE TO SURVIVE.

I am 73 years and my wife is disabled, what we are making now we can barley get by,Now the politicians are passing out raises for themselves that they dont deserve. I am just asking for what is legally mine i paid into ss for 60 years with the idea to get paid back. i do know one thing i voted for this crooked administration but will not be fooled again.I think this formula they use they make the numbers come out to fit there agenda. I again have not seen any decrease in anything i buy, everything is going up up up. I want this administration to know that senior citizens vote there pocket book., I think mid term elections will dump some of the garbage.politicians beware the end is near.

Why shouldn't SS seniors receive a raise, the Congress et al make enough money and ALWAYS seem to be able to increase their income, get medical insurance at no cost to them for lifetime and countless other benefits. Would it hurt them to give the old folks who raised them at meager $25 increase? How stingy and selfish can you be. Get rid of your 'save it all for me' attitude, we are floundering out here

We need to change the processes and procedures that govern Social Security (i.e. too many qualify and for any reason. Even The Federal Government is allowed to take out Social Security to pay debt).

Politicians do not understand the system but get to vote on any changes.

Social Security is based on 35 years of paying into the system - not getting shot in the knee; can't work; qualify for Social Security or got 5-6 kids and qualified for Social Security.

Where there were 1 recepient for every 10 payee into the system; there are now probably a 1 to 4 ratio.

Again, need to review processes and procedures to prevent Social Security from becoming a complete giveaway program.
