All I need to do is watch when Jared cries in the episode Heart and know that everytime I see that I know how talented Jared is. That is why I mentioned earlier that it really might be a good thing he did not win the under appreciated role. Jared really is exceedingly talented.

I shouldn't have to go back 4 seasons to see a scene with emotional range from an actor. Jared hasn't displayed that kind of dimension in his acting in that length of time either, and the projects he has pursued and been rumored to be attached to outside of SPN don't impress me either. He is also not underappreciated in the fandom, Sam the character I would say is but Jared himself is not. and that's what this poll comes down to.
Paul Wesley has displayed extreme growth from the time when I first saw him on Everwood and American Dreams. And he is now on a show where most of the attention is drawn to the other male lead. People flock to Ian Somerhalder. Praise is thrown at him, and Paul deserves a lot of attention too.
As I told last Poll, Paul is great actor not only on TVD. He was plaing various characters. He has a great potential, whih should be appreciated more.
Maybe Jared not winning that poll actually shows he has more talent because then he is truely appreciated for his work. Jared you rock and keep on giving us the great performances we have grown to love from you.

@Ashley very nicely put about Jared. He really does a great job with his performance as Sam. When I watch SPN I like both Jensen and Jared but Jared is my favorite. Even when the poll is over it does not matter who wins. The fans of Jared and Paul will still have their opinons on which on is under-appreciated. I feel it is Jared but that is why everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

okay, I'm a fan of both shows and while Paul may not get as much credit as he deserves, Jared is definitely more under-appreciated. They are both great actors but everything that Stefan is going through as a character, Sam has already went through. Jared has been awesome at playing the good-boy nerd, who is so emotional, at the beginning of the series, to the uncaring, emotionless Sam without a soul now. I really don't think Paul can compare. Jared has such a wide-range for acting and he does excellent no matter what it is, Paul can be irritating at times. Also Jensen usually gets all the credit for his superb acting, so Jared is definitely underappreciated. Everyone I ask believes that the acting in Supernatural is SO much better than the acting in the Vampire Diaries. Like I said I am a fan of both, and they both have really talented actors but Supernatural, Jared specifically, gets my vote. He deserves it much more. I've never really been able to connect with the Vampire Diaries, it never really grabs me. I very rarely find myself empathizing with the characters sometimes because to me the acting isn't believable...whereas in Supernatural I find myself bawling at times, or hysterically laughing. To me, Jared's acting is much more believable than Paul's, there's no competition. and I also believe the only reason Paul is winning is because f this HUGE vampire phase the world is going through, and because of that Vampire Diaries has more viewers. But out of the two Supernatural is by far a better show, filled with talent and Jared definitely deserves to win this more

Well after watching tonights episode of Supernatural I know why I love watching Jared act and why he is under appreciated. He rocked in this episode from beginning to end. Loving Jared. Keep doing what you do it is awesome.
Love both these shows and Paul is a good actor, but I LOVE Sam and I think he's truly far more underrated. Both these guys seem a bit overshadowed by their onscreen brothers, but Sam gets so little appreciation and he does so much with his role!! From innocent puppydog eyes to complete soullessness, Jared can do it all and he really needs some love!!
Paul wesly is the best actor on the planet his charater stefan is brilliant but they should have pur ian somerhalder in there two.Paul is good at makeing you cry also. i remember the epsiode where they broke up; it had me in tears! Paul Wesley should win this poll. Its not because hes in a vampire show and there is a whole craze about that at the moment, he is genuinely a good actor. If people actually watched an episode of the vampire diaries they would see that its not an easy role to portray, and Paul does an excellent job at it.

@Spring I guess it shows acting really is subjective because I didn't think he was very good in that episode but like I said he rocks evil and emotionless so it would be cool to see him on the big screen as a villian or something.

@cj, I direct you to the SPN episode "Heart" Season 2 episode 17. Jared did an exceptional job playing a very emotional Sam. I feel that Jared is very good at delivering whatever the writers ask him to.

Voted Paul. I think Jared has given some outstanding performances but other times I think he's shockingly bad. He's good at playing evil or the emotionless Sam but he's bad at the emotional scenes so this years definitely playing to his strengths. I think Paul is consistently good.

As for Paul whatever his last name is, I can't vote for him cause I never watched Vampire Diaries. The only vampire show I have watched, is Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. And that will probably be the only vampire shows I will ever watch.

It has been very interesting to read all the above comments starting from the beginning of the poll. I am a SPN fan and of course voted for Jared. Jared has made Sam's character greatly expand over 6 seasons and every moment has been amazing to watch. He went from the clean cut college student who was trying to run from hunting to being possessed by a demon (which I might say was one of my favorite episodes). Then after everything with Dean he became addicted to Demon blood and had to go thru detox. Amazing acting in those scenes. Next was being Lucifer's vessel. If you are a fan of SPN you know how amazing he was playing that character. To have taken a character were he has makes him a great actor. Now we have souless Sam. The way he is playing him is not to shabby. Now I can honestly say I do not watch TVD so I can not say anything bad about Paul and his acting. I watched him when he was on Guiding Light and American Dreams. For me it is all Jared. I would not change my opinon. There are critics who have written that Jared is a very good actor and has a promising future. In the end the poll is interesting. As some people have noted TVD is newer and people are enjoying it. At some point if the show has a run like SPN has had then they will be as lucky as the Winchester Brothers. They did achieve over 100 episodes which many shows do not. That is due to Jared and Jensen's acting skills. So if Jared would not win I would still watch him and say he is the better actor.
@ Noelle, Jared probably is more highly supported by SPN fans than Jensen because he is more outgoing than him but there aren't as many SPN fans as there are TVD fans so because SPN doesn't have that large of a fan base I still consider Jared and Jensen under-appreciated when compared to other actors.

I also think what made me vote for Paul in this poll has a lot to do with how their characters are being portrayed in their current seasons on their respective shows. On Paul's show, I love Stefan this season. He's become more fierce, bad-ass, he stands up for himself and he's grown more ball-sy. He's become an all-around much stronger character and it's been great for the show. Sam, unfortunately, I'm not liking at all this season. Soul or no soul, I hate the way Sam is acting and I don't like his behaviour. He's treated Dean terribly and put his brother at risk many times and his attitude is just plain dick-ish. So maybe it is Sam's character that has me turned off from him, but then again, Jared is doing a good job of selling what the writers are giving him. I just prefer Paul and his portrayal of Stefan because he's more interesting to me. Plus, I'm totally biased in a way considering that I love The Vampire Diaries more then Supernatural at the moment (and I'm a big Supernatural fan). Plus, Jared has been promoted for the last 5 or 6 years, I hardly think he is under-appreciated. All I hear from Supernatural fans is how awesome Jared is and how much they love Sammy etc so I don't really think he's that under-appreciated.

I think Jared and Jensen are both great and would praise either one of them as great actors. They just have to work really hard since they for the most part are the only two consistent actors on the show and have both always done an amazing job making the changes that their characters go through very smooth and believable to the viewer. I just haven't seen quite as much challenge being thrown at the actors of TVD, maybe becuase of the writing of their stories, but Paul and the other actors of that show also do very well with their characters. Because Jared and Jensen have had such extreme character changes and challenges and, to me, always made it work great, I would speak highly of either of them.
I'm sorry but I strongly disagree with all of you. I guess I just don't see what you all see. Shame on me. Or maybe it's because I'm more of a Dean girl but oh well. I do hope Paul wins and even if he doesn't, I still think he's the better actor.

Oh come on people....this isn´t about Sam and Stefan, it´s about Jared and Paul...
Yea, Jared character used to be more fun and happy like in the first 2 seasons but lately, partly because of the state of his character currently he can't really be as happy or fun as he used to. I totally miss that and hope it comes back eventually. Still think that Jared has always done great with whatever the writers have thrown at him.
Jared, in my opinion, is the better actor. While I think both are superb, Jared portrays his character-which mind you, Sam Winchester is a very complex character- a lot better than Paul portrays Stefan.
Also, when I refer to emotions on-screen, I'm not just talking about crying scenes. I'm talking about every single emotion. IMO, Stefan has conveyed EVERY single emotion on his show whereas, I haven't seen that from Jared. I've seen Paul/Stefan sad, tortured, crying, angry, confused, fun-loving, angsty, out of control, rebellious, shocked, evil etc. I haven't seen that range of emotions from Jared. Most of the time, Jared/Sam is either brooding, evil or brooding again.
It was so hard to choose I love them Both!!! :P
@Macguff: What are you talking about??? Stefan Salvatore is not exactly like Edward Cullen. If anything, Edward Cullen is a copy of Stefan Salvatore. Get your facts straight. The Vampire Diaries came out long before Twilight ever existed. You obviously no nothing about the character of Stefan Salvatore or Edward Cullen for you to be throwing them together in the same sentence. Yes, they have some similarities but that is not all Stefan Salvatore is, an Edward copy. Stefan's character is more then just the brooding vampire. He is a multi-faceted and interesting character, much more interesting then on and off evil Sam Winchester. I love Sam but his character is not that interesting anymore. Probably because of the constant "something is wrong with Sam" storyline that Jared keeps getting. I personally, as a Supernatural fan, am tired of it and it has turned me off of the show a little bit. Now we have Dean trying to save Sam AGAIN for the 1 millionth time. Jared is a good actor but AGAIN, overall, Paul is the better actor when it comes to displaying emotions on-screen.
@Macguff, that episode is so sad and totally got me completely choked up! Paul has yet to get me to feel that way when Stefan has gone through his difficult times so sticking with Jared as Sam all the way!

How is Paul Wesley's acting better? He's played the winey martyr for the passed two seasons. Like that's SO HARD. He's just a glorified version of Edward Cullen. If we were talking about his better half Ian Somerhalder that plays Damon Salvatore then it would be another story entirely but were not. Jared Padalecki is an amazing actor and if you want to compare emotions then you should watch "Heart" Season 2, Episode 17.

@Roberta: While I respect your opinion, I have to disagree. IMO, the Winchester brothers have lost that certain chemistry or "spark" (and no, I don't mean in a Wincest way) that they used to have in the earlier seasons. The Salvatore brothers, on the other hand, have much more chemistry with each other and it's fresh and exciting. I feel like they have done the whole "rinse and repeat" so much with the Winchester brothers, you know, the whole "Dean dying, Sam trying to bring him back" or "Sam dying, Dean making a deal to bring Sam back" and on and on and on. Supernatural has become so rinse and repeat and that makes me sad as a Supernatural fan. Whereas, with The Vampire Diaries, there are always new twists, dynamics and new characters introduced and incorporated onto the show. This is where I think The Vampire Diaries might have the upper hand. Supernatural was like this in the beginning but then after season 3 or 4, it became so repetitive, a great show but repetitive. Especially with the whole "brother's sacrificing themselves for each other, dying and going to hell, something is wrong with Sammy, Dean having to save Sam over and over again" storyline." Because of this, it pains me to say that maybe Supernatural should have ended last season. And I know I'm getting critical of Supernatural now but this is only my opinion. I just find the Salvatore brothers more intriguing and entertaining then the Winchester brothers.

I think this pretty much comes down to personal opinion and some are stating as facts. I can see both sides to the arguement here. Some say SPN is coming up to an end whereas TVD is just part of the vampire craze and phase. But either way, insulting each other won't change someone else's opinion. Personally, I do think that TVD is just part of the vamp craziness and I have doubts for SPN next year. (That was a tough thing to say and I'm completely in love with that show). But I also think that SPN can pick up and that considering there is a hude vamp craze happening, now is time for TVD to make it's money and be successful. Vote for who you want to vote for and just accept that not everyone loves the actor you love.
And this is someone who wins at every game I play of "Who Knows Jared Best". It's my destiny to stalk him, be arrested and end up with a restraining order from him one day. You can't believe how I had to raid my cupboards and wear a tiny, dirty old thinking cap for this.
@Noelle, the story of salvatore brothers is very interesting i cannot say otherwise, but you can not say that the story is more complex and dynamic than winchester brothers because is not!! basically is all about Katherine!! for me in that tv show Nina Dobrev is that is making a very god job!!

And that was a painful decision. I only say that because I think that the Salvatore brothers have a much more interesting, complex and dynamic brotherhood and they have a much bigger history with each other. Although that was a really tough, tough decision because I love both brother dynamics.

Okay, TVD and SPN both have fans that have gotten sorta snarky now, which happens when people are super passionate about their shows and the shows' actors. Good to see all the passion but can we move on please?
I'm sorry but some of the comments coming from Supernatural fans on here are making me really embarrassed to be a Supernatural fan. I know there are passionate fans from both the Vampire Diaries and Supernatural camps but that is no excuse for both sides to attack each other in such a childish fashion. I'm really young (I'm 17) so I know my opinion doesn't really count for anything major because I'm a minor but I like everyone else has an opinion. I see what I see and what I see are more Supernatural fans attacking both Vampire Diaries fans and PW and I personally think that is very unfair. Maybe the stereotype is true: The minority always seems to have the louder voice.

The Vampire Diaries storyline came out LONG before Supernatural ever existed. FACT. But this isn't about which show is better, or who is hotter, this is about who I think is the better actor between Paul Wesley and Jared Padalecki and bottom line, I think PAUL WESLEY is way better when it comes to ACTING ABILITY. I think Jared is good too but I think Paul is BETTER. His emotions on-screen are more believable. Jared, on the other hand, makes certain facial expressions which take me out of a scene. This is also an aspect of acting where not only Paul is superior to Jared but Jensen as well. Sorry, that's just the truth. And Sarah, you really should go attacking people for having an opinion because that is what everyone has: an opinion. Please stop disrespecting people who think differently then you. You will never gain respect for your opinion if you're are insulting others.

@Sarah- Why are Supernatural fans being so hostile? I've been watching Supernatural since the show first came out back in 2005, and I own every single Supernatural box set. Supernatural is a GREAT show, I DIDN'T SAY THAT IT WASN'T. I said that the storyline on SPN at the moment is getting dull and boring and that's the truth. It doesn't have the same chutzpah that it had before and that is only normal considering it's been on for 6 years. The Vampire Diaries is a new show, it just came out last year, so yes, it is a new show compared to Supernatural. That is what I said. I think Jared is talented and has sold the character of Sam Winchester very well but in my opinion, I think Paul is the better actor. Everyone has their own opinions and opinions, so I think both TVD and SPN fans shouldn't be so hostile towards each other.
