I remember during the Presidential campaign the NY Times ran a completely bogus story on John McCain and one of his aides on their front page. Much much later, there was a small retraction by the NY Times. Same thing here, anonymous sources and nothing more.

Until they have proof, they should not smear a person's reputation with false information and lies. It is one of the 10 Commandments "thou shalt not bear false witness."
