How much is Maine's DEFICIT??? How many people in Maine are OUT of work??? How much is this debate, about what Maine's dessert should be, costing the people of Maine; and in the end does it really make a difference? Maybe Gov LePage should tell this group to "kiss my butt" and move on to more important issues!! The government is always talking about wasteful spending ... this is the biggest example of waste yet!

I think we should have whoppie pies beacause we have blueberries as our maine state fruit/plant

I love whoopie pies I also grew up raking Blueberries for school clothes and spending money The blueberry we grow them we harvest them we package them ,Most people eat them They generate allot of money to the State of Maine I do not eat them But I feel they should be the state dessert . I s this all our state government has to do ??????????????? We need to buy Maine products ....... buy blueberries

Are you kidding me? Let's face it I do enjoy whoope pies but I grew up raking blueberries to help support the family, including school clothes every year. But your right, why are our legislatures worried about the official Maine desert? Lucky them they got lots of free whoopie pies for their hard"ly" work.

It should be blueberry pie, now get to work lawmakers! Enough of this topic, just makes me shake my head, how silly is this, and who really cares!

  • Peggy - 13 years ago

Who the hell thinks of whoopie pies when they think of Maine????? No one! Maine is NOT known for whoopie pies! People come to Maine to eat BLUEBERRIES and LOBSTER!!! This is stupid, get to work Augusta!!!!

Whoopie pies originated in the PA. Dutch area of PA., so why is Maine trying to own a dessert already a favorite of another region? Wild Maine blueberries have been growing here forever & that industry brings in more money than the Mom & Pop opperations that make whoopie pies. I'm glad they have their nitch & can make a living from it, but a fruit dessert HAS to be better for you than a dessert that doesn't have fruit. Do we really want a fat, fluffy whoopie pie representing Maine, or a native fruit dessert? I would take wild Maine blueberries over high bush NJ blueberrys anyday. Are whoopie pies made from all Maine ingredients? What says Maine about a whoopie pie, made w/ingredients from who knows where? Take a drive to the wild blueberry fields & you will see Maine.

    I love blueberry pie

  • Lori - 13 years ago

Blueberries are already our State fruit so the dessert should be something different...like Whoopie Pies!!

  • Cindy - 13 years ago

We have Lobster, we have potatoes and yes, we have blueberries.. just because you can make a pie out of blueberries doesn't make it Maine's dessert... I'd actually take a lobster for my dessert and you can keep the pie and the whoopie!

  • Gram - 13 years ago

There's no lard in MY whoopie pies. Blueberries are the MAINE thing.

  • Carol - 13 years ago

Really now, our state government doesn't have any other pressing issues? You have got to be kidding!!

  • Nancy - 13 years ago

It's all in moderation. Is blueberry pie really all THAT healthy??? :)

  • KatieH - 13 years ago

C'mon, honestly? Maine doesn't want to be known as the "Whoopie Pie" state. Blueberries; good for you, grown everywhere in maine. Maine is a country state if you think about it. Blueberries grown in wide open fields! Maine = Blueberries. Way to be. Let's not change this. Now I really love whoopie pies, blueberries and maine. So let's make the right choice and stay blueberries.

i agree with the person who said to put the blueberries in the whoopie pie because i am a fan of whoopie pies, but my grandfather owns a blueberry field and i love to eat them off of the plant, so, that would be really cool.

  • jackson - 13 years ago

Are dessert should be blueberry whoopie pies

  • ROLAND - 13 years ago

IS THIS WHY WE VOTED THE REPUBLICANS IN FOR????
LET'S GET TOWORK ON SOMETHING THAT REALLY MATTERS,
LIKE HEALTHCARE FOR OUR MAINE SENIORS ETC.
BY TH WAY IT'S BLUEBERRY PIE,CAKE,MUFFINS, PANCAKES,HOW ABOUT ANYTHING
    THATS BLUEBERRY!!!!!!!

  • Bob - 13 years ago

I agree with Ralph. Doesn't our state government have better things to spend time on instead of which dessert should be the "Maine Dessert". Really this is what my tax dollars go to? Come on politicians get to work like the rest of us!

  • Megan - 13 years ago

Well every body loves a good whoopie pie so why don't we just make it a whoopie? I hate blueberries :) Plus the whoopie pies are much better its not that big of a deal if you sometimes have a whoopie pie. :)

  • Diana Meehan - 13 years ago

You can have blueberry pie in any state. Whoopie pies are a Maine staple. To be honest New Jersey blueberries are bigger and sweeter than Maines.

  • Ralph - 13 years ago

It's to bad our legilators can't find anything more important to spend their time on than the official dessert of Maine.

  • lisa - 13 years ago

    How about Blueberry Whoopie pies?

  • nan - 13 years ago

Maine wild blueberries have almost twice the antioxidants than the other blueberries that are bigger! Imagine... a dessert that will provide great taste and high antioxidants as our state dessert. Definately a healthier choice for a state dessert!

  • wooowwwww - 13 years ago

why dont we just take blueberrys and put them IN the whoppiepies!!!!!!!

  • Mary - 13 years ago

I love Blueberry Pie and a Wicked Whoopie is delicious, it was very difficult to choose between both desserts are very Maine. I voted blueberry pie, it is a local product that is harvested here in Maine and is equally as yummy! Buy Local, Buy Maine

  • nancy - 13 years ago

    you said my thoughts!!!!!!!!

  • FreshFoods - 13 years ago

We grow blueberries in Maine....it's a major industry here. We don't grow lard, or chocolate, etc.
Do we really want to be known nationwide as the "fat" state? Blueberries are good for us! Let's use logic.
