Nice looking car. I've never owned a VW Passat (Dasher) before. If one were for sale (diesel) near where I live (Seattle, Washington), I'd check it out, and possibly buy it. It's a little out of my price range, but not bad for one that's in good condition. A turbo diesel would make for a faster accelerating vehicle, but a 1.5 litre diesel engine would be perfect for taxiing people around town. I'd prefer the station wagon version, but this wouldn't be a bad car to drive, either for personal transportation or for business use.

I had an '80 exactly like this one (only mine had the vinyl seats). The green is unrelenting, and it's horrible inabilty to get out of it's own way will get you a lot of dirty looks, in more ways than one.....this is a non-catalyst diesel, after all. A few positives: it cost me the equivalent of $100 (needed a head gasket), it had remarkable fit and finish, and it didn't shake as much as the Rabbit diesels (esp. the Westmoreland- built models of '81-84). The shifting on mine was silky smooth, but then it should be...because of the north-south eng./trans. config., your shifter and trans are mere inches apart, with a minimum of linkage. Once up to speed, it was actually a pleasant drive, with awesome fuel economy and solid handling, considering the narrow 13" tires the car came with. If this current offering came with a gas-powered mill, or if it was equipped with a turbo diesel, I might have reconsidered my hasty vote, but alas....
