A movie that goes unnoticed is The Astronauts Wife. That is one chilling performance by Mr. Depp although the movie is centered around Charlize Theron. I also agree that his performance in Chocolat is a favorite of mine.

It's too bad that Johnny's portrayal of John Dillinger was left off of the list. I loved him in Public Enemies! But as it was, there was too many good choices to choose from.

It was a little over the top... but I like Wade "Crybaby" Walker :)

I love Captain Jack's shenanigans as much as anyone but where is the love for the Deppster's portrayal of the the lovable scamp "Roux" in the the 2000 film "Chocolat?" He gives a nuanced and mischievous yet unabashedly lovable performance that's shows off his brilliant animal magnetism in a very real and controlled manner. It was that was this character in that movie that made me, a straight man in a committed relationship, understand, "Oh, this is why the ladies dig this guy."

One of the greatest performances I have ever seen was Johnny Depp's 'Earl of Rochester' in
'The Libertine'. The critics dissed this monumental performance (& Malkovich's, too!!). Johnny showed himself as the consumate actor. Watching that brilliant intellectual being overcome by the horrid cancer that gripped his nation in decadence and debauchery. It was like watching Brando as 'the best and brightest' destroyed by War in 'Apocalypse Now'.
Richard Burton, Marlon Brando, Laurence Olivier, Peter O'Toole & the other true Greats , should welcome Johnny Depp to their very elite circle. (& you can throw Leonardo DiCaprio in for good measure!)
