There is no way to control what these kids are doing on these devices. I was a kid when calculators were banned from classrooms but that doesn't mean I didn't learn to use a calculator.
Most children would rather be distracted than learn. These devices are distractions.

It is a good idea to prepare the kids to what they will face in the real world. It is not what you can memorize but how efficiently you are able to research and report the correct information. Sometimes you memorize the facts incorrectly.
