There are several factors that influence my decision because I typically have one or two serious things that I am always trying to "control." Usually if I can sample something first that my esthetician recommends that helps because if I have to spend $40 or more on something and I am not sure that I will respond, it makes me not want to try it. But what I DO rely heavily most on is user reviews from such sites as acne.org, makeup alley, amazon, twitter, and blogs...if people say it works no matter the company or cost, I will try it out! Just because a company is well known doesn't really do too much for me. Also what helps me too is if I know the company takes into consideration different ethnicities, I am a fitzpatrick III and I can't use everything because I will hyperpigmentate and I have sensitive skin...after dealing with one particular issue for so long, I kind of know that too much of one ingredient will send my skin over the edge and it's always good to know that the company has experts or trains estheticians in the use of their particular products for different kinds of skin, I feel more able to trust them and feel securer spending more money for a product. I hope this helps!
