How do you feel about organic food and products?

The term 'organic food' is, at best a disgusting misnomer'. By implication all other food is inorganic.

The more appropriate and accurate label would be 'organically grown food'. The feel good aurora of only eating 'organic food' is fine if you can afford it. Are the improved flavors and quality of organic foods based on truly objective data or are the improvements more physiological than real. Does it really make economic sense to pay $5.00 per pound for organic tomatoes when "inorganic" tomatoes may be only $2.00 or $3.00 per pound?

If it takes increased acreage to grow the same amount of food organically, as traditional farming/gardening, is it really beneficial to the environment since more land is removed from its natural environment. Over reliance on organic farming with its inherent decreased productivity per acre would only exacerbate world food shortages and increased food cost in lessor developed countries.

Before you fly off in a green rage you should know that I have two active compost piles, when feasible I do hand weeding, and if they are big enough I 'hand pick' bugs. I have tried, with little success, organic remedies for some pests and have had to resorted to 'evil' chemical treatments. My family and I grow enough food to meet our daily needs plus 'extra' for home canning and freezing.
