Should the Dodgers retire Fernando Valenzuela's number?

    Retire his number. He meant so much to the LA Dodgers and the City of LA. He might no be Hall worthy, but he worthy of having his number hung along with all the Dodger Greats. Go Dodgers, but F*** the McCourts.

    Retiring a number is about the players impact on a given team not for the entire sport and its history. Fernando, impacted the Dodgers, the community and Dodger history. The only negative thought I have is that other numbers are equally deserving to be retired but the question was not about them

    Gents: The HOF often honors highly competent longevity more than greatness. Fernando and Orel Hershiser both had periods of greatness and dominance that HOFer Don Sutton never approached. ... Plus, why would you let national baseball writers, who decided the HOF, decide who a franchise and its community should honor? Vote yes on Fernando!

    i agree retired numbers should only be for hall of famers. as great as fernando was, if you retire his number then you would have to retire the numbers of steve gravey, maury wills etc.

    Fernando was great, but only Hall of Famers should have their number retired.
