If a student does not want to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance, should they be allowed to sit?

Hope - You're proud of your daughter for NOT saying the Pledge?! Why in the hell do you even live in this country since you're not a loyal citizen? Apparently your loyalty lies elsewhere and that's where you should be - not here in the "land of the free and the home of the brave"!

Hope, how can you call yourself an American? I almost want to move away to get away from you. People like you are the reason why this country is in the state it's in today.

The poll was "shoul;d they stand?" , Yes, out of respect for the country they live and to have the freedom "NOT" to pledge allegaince if they wish not to.

You should still have the respect for those who want to pledge.

Would you keep talking when someone is praying?

Adios, douche bags. The maharishi has just weighed in. I didn't know they had electricity on tops of mountains in BFE.

Anger is a secondary emotion to either fear, security, power, or control. Fears are interesting to observe in ourselves....there is much to learn from them!

Group think supports fear, usually demands insiders and outsiders. Gathering folks to be on one side or the other doesn't allow much room for understanding. Instead, we just reject it and create fears to make others reject it with us. But really, we just don't understand something. Beware of group think!

Non-Dual Thinking is bigger than insiders & outsiders, doesn't judge, and has room for everyone's opinions. It's strength is in understanding all "positions", "opinons", "judgements" and "fear-based thinking". It ALSO finds a root in decision-making together for the good of everyone. If fear gets in there, you're right back to not understanding something. Making space for all interests is the wise person's choice. Can we learn to be wise again?

Hope ( a misplaced moniker if ever there was one) -
Why don't you move to a country that has no patriotic beliefs like Libya? Or, Iran? Then you can wrap up in a sheet and go to the market and HOPE you don't get killed in the process.
And, take your daughter with you.

When fascism comes to America it will be carrying a cross and wrapped in a flag.

My daughter does NOT pledge allegiance at her school. And I am proud of her.

    All American -
What better time to indoctrinate the people as to what we believe than as children? If we don't, someone else might, i.e. Islamist extremist, jihadist, etc. I think you get the picture.
Did you say it as a child or did you wait until you had full grasp of the Constitution, vocabulary, etc.? Like most, you said it. Did you complain? Did your parents complain? I have no idea how old you are, but this is a relativley new idea, what with allowing children to swim upstream with full parental support, so to speak. When I was growing up, this never happened. I'm 60.

    1. ( Pledge; a solemn promise or agreement to do or refrain from doing something: a pledge of aid; a pledge not to wage war.)
I don't believe minors, especially Elementary Students should be pledging, or promising anything that they don't fully understand..ask a third grader what allegiance, republic, indivisble mean..
Oh, and you other idiot comments..it's the Pledge of Allegiance..not the National Anthem.
