We have a 1977 GMC Kingsley and have put over 200k miles on it, a lot off of pavement. Axles are generally considered as running from one side to the other. Does you 2000 Impala have front axles or spindles? Half shafts are drive shafts, not axles. They carry no vertical load. ALL six wheels are suspended outside of the frame and the ONLY suspension component inside the frame is the sway bars. Inside floor is less than 8" above the bottom of the vehicle. The rear springs are in line with the tires, this baby does not rock side to side and the rear does not need to slow down for speed bumps.

Avoiding an accident we got in a full broadside slide at 65 mph and drove out of it! Emptied all the cabinets but never felt like it was going to roll. Try that in your Winnebago! Easily does 95 on I-25 in Colorado, and that's with the 403ci engine. Many times traveling Denver to Des Moines at 85mph we 14mpg round trip mileage. And as far as the diesels go... Use a diesel only six months of the year and then park it for 6 months, and watch your maintenance cost go out the roof.

Problems? Yes. Primarily light weight front knuckles and not much room for storage. Yea, we LOVE our GMC even though she's 36 years old.
