    * Fluoride is the only chemical added to the water that is not to treat the water, but to treat the consumer
    * Fluoride added to water supplies is NOT naturally occurring calcium fluoride
    * It is unethical – there are civil and human rights issues of being force-drugged without informed consent and without FDA-approval
    * Never been safety tested for human consumption (was grandfathered in before 1938 law – for use as a rat poison)
    * Claimed beneficial effects are topical and not systemic (through ingestion) and even the CDC acknowledges this
    * Fluoride is more toxic than lead and almost as toxic as arsenic but is allowed at much greater levels in the water than lead
    * Most people get a lot more than the daily recommended allowance of fluoride from all sources
    * Several studies have suggested that fluoridation is ineffective for its claimed use

The alleged benefit (reduced tooth decay), even if it actually did as claimed, is far outweighed by its toxic side effects, and if the safety of any drug is so hugely controversial, doesn’t common sense demand it not be used at all, and certainly not forced on millions of people for their whole life?

The poll is misleading and therefore results are invalid. Why was the right question not posed and why are the answer choices so asinine?

Brushing with fluoride toothpaste helps reduce tooth decay. But you should not swallow it, especially if you're a little kid. So municipalities should add the CEPA-regulated Class 1 hazardous, bioaccumulative, persistent, corrosive industrial pollutant called fluorosilic acid to clean, potable public drinking water for the sole purpose of increasing fluoride intake and accumulation in consumers including bottle fed babies without teeth, to the point of toxic overdose causing dental fluorosis in 50% of ten year olds and increased risk of needing dialysis in First Nations residents over age 40?

Lead protects against radiation from gamma and xrays. Let's consult the dentists for their advice: therefore we should put lead back in gasoline so everyone, especially the poor who can't afford their own cars, is protected.

there are three compounds refered when we say "fluoride"
Fluoride salts are used to enhance the strength of teeth by the formation of fluorapatite, a naturally occurring component of tooth enamel.

    1) naturally occurring calcium fluoride
Fluorides are toxic to humans, however CaF2 is considered relatively harmless due to its extreme insolubility.

    2) Sodium Fluoride Although sodium fluoride is also used to fluoridate water and, indeed, is the standard by which other water-fluoridation compounds are gauged.
The lethal dose for a 70 kg (154 lb) human is estimated at 5–10 g.[6] Sodium fluoride is classed as toxic by both inhalation (of dusts or aerosols) and ingestion.[12] In high enough doses, it has been shown to affect the heart and circulatory system.

    3) hexafluorosilicic acid (H2SiF6) and its salt sodium hexafluorosilicate (Na2SiF6) are more commonly used additives in Canada and the U.S. for fluoridation.

Hexafluorosilicic acid is used for fluoridation in Canada and the U.S.. About 40,000 tons of fluorosilic acid is recovered from phosphoric acid plants, and then used primarily in water fluoridation, sometimes after being processed into sodium silicofluoride.

It is even more toxic than sodium fluoride and is a toxic waste by product.

... indeed give your head a shake people! Demand a choice.

I feel I need to clarify a few things regarding the previous comments on Fluoride.

Fluoride is NOT a toxic substance, it is a NATURALLY occuring mineral that is found in soil, fresh water, sea water, plants and many foods. Fluoride is a form of fluorine which is one of the most common elements in the earth's crust.

ALL water contains fluoride, fluoridation is a process where the NATURAL fluoride level in the water is adjusted to a level that is required for protection against tooth decay.

Fluoride helps to prevent tooth decay by bonding with the enamel (tooth surface), making the tooth more resistant to bacteria and decay. There has been EXTENSIVE research from reputable sources to prove that water fluoridation is a safe, effective and low cost way to reduce the risk of tooth decay for people of all ages. Luckily for dentists, there are many other factors that can contribute to tooth decay which continues to keep them in business!

Start asking people that grew up in the eastern provinces that HAD fluoride in their water and ask them how many cavities they have had in their life and I bet you will be pleased to find that most of them have never had a caivity! Good news for them as dental costs are not getting any cheaper.

Water fluoridation is not a ploy to deposit toxic substances in to our water systems.....give your head a shake people!

Ingesting fluorisilicic acid (a toxic waste) through our public water supply gives us no free choice if we cannot afford to have a good enough filter to remove that small fluoride compound and not only that it is more dangerous by drinking all the other toxins in the water particularly arsenic and lead which increases lead in our bloodstream. FDA has never approved fluoride to be put in our water and admits it is a toxic poison. Read the warning label on the toothpaste that if swallowed, call Poison Control Center. CDC admits that it should not be given to babies in infant formula. If it's not good for babies, it's not good for anyone.

A very loose statement there Milton.
Fluoride applied topically does show an effect on the teeth. Although long term, this practice doesn't seem to hold up.
Fluoridation however means ingesting this toxic substance. And studies have shown very little, if any benefits to the teeth, and many detrimental effects on the body.
A good sign of fluoridation working would be more dentists out of a job, and looking for alternate employment. I'm not seeing that!
My opinion is that it's a very clever and equatable way of disposing of a highly toxic waste product of the fertalizer and aluminium companies.
A 70 year old con!! And pardon the pun, but people are still swallowing it!!

The dentists see the proof of fluoride in their work.
