Howard had some of the worst numbers for starting goaltenders this past regular season: his GAA was 2.79, 34th in the League; his save percentage was .908, 31st in the League. I realize our defense was far from stellar, but he -did- have one of the best defenseman in history in front of him all season long for 23 minutes a night. It's pretty obvious Howard struggled. His postseason play was more inspired, which might give us some hope for his future. At any rate, it's by no means obvious that Howard should remain.

I do agree, however, that it'd be ludicrous to replace Babcock. He exudes competence, with a proven track-record.

I also agree with tbone's recommendations.

Why did Babs have Hudler, 6 goals, out on the power play so much when guys like Cleary, 25 goals, were sitting on the bench? That to me is probably the only mistake Babs made all year. Getting rid of Babs is soooo dumb I can't believe anyone voted for it.

    Those votes against Babcock? DUMB.

I agree, this quiz is dumb. I can think of many other options that should have been listed than fire Babcock (so laughable I don't know how it was included) and trade for a top goaltender (when we have one, Howard). Why weren't move obvious options listed like:

    1) Trade Hudler - an underperformer all year that could easily be blamed for two losses in San Jose
    2) Don't resign Osgood/Draper/Modano - take your pick, all 3 should probably retire
    3) Make our team learn to not turn over the puck in our own zone.

Babcock blew it. There is no reason to put out the same line combos from Game 1 & 2 for game 7. There are many other coaches that could've taken the Wings to the next level with this talent.

I do remember the dead wings, and am grateful for what they've accomplished the last 15 years, but Babcock made poor coaching decisions that cost us this series (and the Stanley Cup two years ago).

Anyone who voted to replace Mike Babcock is utterly ignorant of anything related to hockey and coaching in general. To those of you who did do so, I strongly suggest that you read some history, particularly about the Harkness era. It is there that you will learn what bad coaching is and why we should be grateful to have under contract a coach of Babcock's caliber.

Yep, the options on here were dumb. I will admit that during the reg season, I would have easily have chosen to get rid of Howard. And while I still stand behind my comments then, he stepped up his game tremendously during the playoffs - and would be my choice for Wings MVP of the playoffs.

As far as getting rid of Babs - what an insane option to even consider! (and who voted for that?!?!) I admit there are decisions of his that I don't agree with or understand (like his insistence on playing Hudler so much), but he is a terrific coach, and we are lucky to have him.

I would have to agree with B.Roy. Replacing Babcock would easily be the dumbest thing that they could do. And Howie is still getting better, he should be a top goaltender within the next few years. And the solid backup is an excellent idea. Ozzie just needs to retire already. He's due for it, he's getting old and starting to lose his skill.

Replace Babcock? Trade for a top goaltender? This is the STUPIDEST quiz I've ever seen. Replace Babs, like his 5 consecutive 50 win seasons and nearly 50 this year has been remotely rivaled by ANYONE?! You don't replace a guy like that. PERIOD.

Howard, while a young guy, was one of the top goaltenders all season and certainly in the playoffs. There were many, many times this year where the team did nothing to help him and he remained the sole reason they stayed in some games. You don't replace a guy like that either - however I would say they need a solid backup. Ozzie isn't long for retirement and a coaching career, but Howie is a clear cut #1.

Get some better options. This thing sucks.
