What do you make of 'the Big Society' initiative?

I think that the Big Society should be welcomed. It affirms the role of civic society and that the state cannot and should not do everything. Clearly, it needs to be critiqued and Labour need to see it as an opportunity to respond with a positive agenda on civic society et al.

I didn't really fit into any of the categories (typical!): I think the Big Society's a great idea and actually potentially cohesive in it's philosophy - it doesn't have to be all about money, it does have to be about building capacity locally so that power can be appropriately devolved.
However, I think there's a battle on against those people who sully the phrase and it's meaning by using it as a cover for cuts. We need to be active in challenging people that do that to protect the positive meaning of the 'Big Society'.

It is something i believe is fundamentally important to society and for us as a community to have. I think a lot of people dont feel connected or part of their society and so if they take part and do something it helps with this sense of belonging. Having said all that, I dont think the government has put enough resources into the scheme or really communicated how it would work. I think they have communicated what it is, we now need the why and how from them.

i think it is important that we ensure that this country is back on track , by supporting the bastions of the church, the law, and the monarchy.
