They should of did the soda tax; additionally, a junk food and liquor tax. Also, why not start a book fee (maybe $50 a year per student)?

City is rigged, bust all the drug dealers & the money will add up real quick. My neighbor is a crack head, has hiv and is banging doors all night to get high. She even has the dealers pulling in front of the house & I have 3 little one's here.Called the cops a number of times & nothing happens I guess until its too late! The cops and mayor are probably getting a cut.Oh and went to WaWa and saw 3 cops piging out,one was fat weighing 350lbs.A couple nights earlier I called the cops, waited 50min & they never showed. This mayor need to go,but will probably win his next term because crime likes him.

Decreasing pay, eliminating jobs, and increasing class size is not going to help any child learn. Teachers already get paid so little- keep decreasing and you will just decrease the quality of the teacher. Increase class size and allow children to get lost in the system. Society is unfortunately much different than it was "back in the day"- both parents have to work to put food on the table, education is not always valued in a home as much as it could be, and discipling children in the way it used to be will result in the school system being hit with lawsuits. Many years ago, if a child did something wrong in school, the parents didn't even listen to the child's side- they just knew the teacher shouldn't have had to call home. Nowadays, the parent will come in with a gun or a lawyer. The money for decent schools has to come from somewhere and if the state or federal government isn't giving it, then it has to come from the local tax payers. Cutting money from schools will cause the need for an increase for police presence as crime will definitely be even more of a problem as well as the lines for unemployment when these uneducated people won't be able to get jobs.

For years I have supported more money for our education systems in the city. But I have had enough. How long do you keep throwing money at the problems before we realize that it is the school district of philadelphia that is the problem. by my calculations, it is something like $330K per 30 child classroom that we pay for. Where does that money go? its all enough. make due or get to stepping. decrease pay, eliminate jobs, increase class size and bring back discipline. Worked in my day, and no negotiations were needed back then.
