When Hugh Jackman can get a three minute standing ovation from 18, 000 people for singing "Bring Him Home", he will be worthy of singing the role of ValJean. Until then, only Alfie Boe can do the role. Alfie is amazing and well loved, not to mention easy on the eyes.

I love Les Mis and have seen the play live numerous times in London and the US. However the performance that made me stop dead in my tracks was the performance by the talented Mr. Alfie Boe at the O2 concert. He isn't a pop performer but a singer who possesses real heft in the voice along with a sweet tenderness as well especially when singing in the high part of the range that can sound woefully thin when not done right. Bring Him Home is so high and difficult to sing and yet was mastered to perfection by Mr. Alfie Boe. He has put in his time on stage in opera and now in Les Mis in the West End. Alfie Boe should play the role of Jean Valjean in the movie. Once upon a time a movie director took a chance on an unknown (to movie audiences) actress by the name of Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins. It was an inspired and gutsy choice then. It would be the same now. Alfie Boe should play Jean Valjean.

there is no way Hugh Jackman could sing JVJ! While is a tremendous actor, vocally, he just couldn't handle it! Alfie Boe has the whole package! He is the only JVJ I've heard who has the voice for the part! Anyone who says Alfie would need help with any of it, hasn't really seen him! He is an amazing actor and strong as an ox! And just because I think he's an excellent singer, doesn't make me an opera snob! In fact his fans are far from opera snobs! We come from all different backgrounds. We love Alfie and we won't pay money to see the movie if he's not in it!

Hugh would make an EXCELLENT Valjean! All those PBS watchers! The movie has to appeal to millions of REGULAR people, not just musical theater and opera snobs! Alfie Boe just stands there and makes pretty operatic noises and love-sick cow eyes! Hugh would move! Graceful, handsome, charismatic, strong! Valjean's a supernaturally strong ex-con, not a pretty, pasty opera-boy! Who looks more the part of the galley slave! Who looks like he can carry a full-grown man through the sewers of Paris! Who looks like he can lift a cart? Bet Hugh wouldn't need help for that and Alfie would! Cast the movie properly for the regular people not the snobs! Hugh all the way!

There is only one Jean Valjean and that is Alfie Boe. Anyone else would be a huge disappointment after Alfie Boe's superb performance at the O2 last year. His highly anticipated return to the role at the Queens Theatre this summer confirms that he is the only man for the job.

Hugh Jackman would be wonderful in Les Mis. But I think another option would be for him to get the rights for "Time and Again" by Jack Finney (Robert Redford might still have the rights) and play Simon Morley. Mr. Jackman has a production company and now with new technology this book could be made into a brilliant film. Perhaps Mr. Redford even has a screenplay...
