let's get ill. caught up with other states . keep jobs and money in our own state instead of people going out of state. also the horse racing industry could use the help! a lot of people don't realize how many of the horseman depend on this .from owners.trainers, and hard working people from the stables . support horse racing in ill.

I favor a Chicago casino only if Rockford gets one--Rockford needs one to help spur economic development.

People who like a casino are going to go anywhere they can. Why have the tax dollars going to Indiana or downstate Illinois when they could help Chicago out of its deficit.

I get the desire to keep the $ in IL. But I don't get why it has to be downtown Chicago. And allowing one opens the door to the dozens that have made Reno & Atlantic City what they are today.

If we have to have this casino, I hope we at least will be reasonable about placement. Let's actually use it to revitalize an area that needs it, e.g. place it on the river, south of downtown, west of downtown, places that truly need the lift. But I see the mayor wanting to put his new prize gem smack in the middle of downtown or overlooking the lake.

beautiful city? Yes, the lakefront itself is nice, but chicago has just as awful crime rates as Reno and Atlantic City. And i'm not sure how you can correlate this issue with crime - even if you do, those cities have dozens of casinos not 1 or 2 or even 5.

Illinois is in rough shape. I agree with paulsmith - why not keep Illinois dollars IN illinois, and even bring more in from other states and other visitors? Take St. louis as an example - do any of those casinos have crime ridden areas around them? It's all a matter of how much the state encourages the business, and how local businesspeople deal with it.

There should be limitations - I don't know that you need EVERY person that could ever benefit from the casino - you'd have to start with EVERY person living in Illinois. However, you could have restrictions including hiring only Illinois contractors and employees.

    Just my 2 cents

There is a finite amount of gaming dollars available. We have paramutual, bingo, lottery and nine, soon to be ten casinos. The state of Illinois supports gaming. Why are we encouraging so many of the Illinois gaming dollars to go to our neighboring states? Why do we not encourage responsible gaming in Illinois? The latest Capital legislation has video poker in every tavern and club in the state. What is wrong with regulating and monitoring gaming at five new casinos? Perhaps slots at race tracks and OTBs is over the top. But the five new casinos would keep so many of the gaming dollars in Illinois.

Do we not encourage deeping the VOX gaming dollars at the Chicago Board Options Exchange?

Too sleazy for our beautiful, world class lakefront city.

Chicago is a beautiful city that attracts visitors from around the country and the world. If Chicago gets a casino, it may actually keep people away, especially those with families.
The atmosphere in Atlantic City and Reno is scary if you wander 1 block away from the casino areas, due to crime. I hope we don"t do this to our city, just to avoid paying taxes for city services we all enjoy like police, fire, recreation and public health.
