Should high school students pay an activities fee if they don't participate in sports or other programs?

no fees should be charged to anyone not participating in a program. I had to pay out $70 last year for my daughter to participate in activities which I was not happy about. If the schools are that hard up for money, then it is time ally employees of the school district including the administration to start paying for their health insurance and retirement funds. Cut the charter schools, these kids need to be in school, not home in front of a computer because they can't learn to socialize. About time for the free rides to end. If the school can't provide a class due to lack of funds then the class should be cut from the curriculum. Many people are un-employed, struggling to pay their mortgages and enduring the constant tax increases, we should not have to pay twice for our kids to participate in extra activivties. We all are learning heard lessons about living within our means and doing without, time the people in the school districts live the by same lessons. Our kids are supposed to be getting an education, that come first in these hard times, everything needs to be done within reason or be done away with unil the economy gets better.

You people need to stop complaining and suck it up. You refuse to pay higher taxes to fund better education, better facilities. You refuse to pay fees to make up these costs. Then you have the gall to sit back and complain when things start falling apart. You don't want "big government" yet you collect your Social Security checks and use state highways, water, parks, and watch Fox News on cable lines run due to government subsidies. Grow up, Berks County.

i don't mind paying the activity fee for my children, but i do mind if part of the fee i pay goes to those who "can't afford" it. That is why they are called "extracurricular" activities. They already getting everything for nothing. Sorry if you can't afford a few bucks maybe you should cut back on the smokes or buy generic brands of products in the store with the EBT card rather than name brands.

My school district spends close to 1 mill (approximately 512,000) to provide the services (i.e. busing, facil maint, trainers, coaches, etc) needed for students who participate in the sports and other programs offerred. Take notice to the students in each sport. You will find many of the students involved in the programs are the same students in multiple sports/programs. So you have a select few students , maybe 17 to 24 students, using large portions of tax revenue to support them, while other students who are not interested in these activities are being short changed in other areas of education. In my opinion it is not a good use of taxpayer money to spend this much on a few students. Although I do not believe every student should pay a fee, students participating in more that one activity per year should have to pay a fee for every additional activity they want to be in. Each student should only get one activity for free.
