If there should be a change made in any professional sport, it should be made to either attract more passionate fan interest, or to help the game expand. Speeding up the game is the best way to handle both objectives. Current fans will get even more involved with a 2.5 hour game over a 4 hour, and mild fans will be more likely to attend/watch a shorter, quicker-paced game.
Embracing PEDs, adding the DH to the NL, expanding instant replay, realignment, etc., all may improve the game to some extent, but is a DH in the NL going to attract a new fan? Probably not. Is having instant replay going to lead to better ratings? Probably not. Knowing that your 10 year old can go to a 7:00PM game, and get out of the game by 10:00? I think you just got Dad to bring one more fan to the game.
