Homeschoolers: Where do you fall on this scale?
~ Not rigorous at all. "Follow your heart..." Unschooling.
~ Minimal rigor... Discovering the child's interest, capitalizing on that. Child-led, but parent-supervised. Montessori-style.
~ Minimal rigor, but within a thoughtful structure which emphasizes natural, gentle learning and interests more than a set curriculum, Charlotte Mason-style.
- 5 ~ Moderate rigor, pursuing and encouraging the student's interests, but with educational requirements and structure, perhaps using a personally-created or highly modified curriculum
-7 ~ Moderate rigor, using a set curriculum, but one chosen with the child's interests & learning style in mind, using a curric like Sonlight, but w/o concern if all the boxes aren't ticked.
- 9 ~ Quite rigorous, using a set curriculum selected more for the parents' priorities, and not deviating from the prescribed requirements, but with LEARNING as the goal.
~ Very rigorous. Using a set curriculum with no concern for wthe child's preferences, not deviating from the curriculum, having strict requirements and grading.
