@ATH Really!?!?! So the poll says 78% of the respondants (CNN Viewers too boot) think he does not deserve the prize.
You said "Most people cannot even have an honest opinion formed by themselves, coming from their own prospective without the inaccurate ideas and opinions of "talking heads" from the very channel already programed in the TV remote.

Your comments lead me to believe you are one of those "Most people" you describe or you must be about 11 years old....

Wize up people - The Nobel Peace Prize 2009 was awarded to Barack H. Obama "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples".

The Nobel selection committee selected President Obama after his very inspiring world tour of the "I am truly sorry I am an American" campaign.

I am sure the selection committee was very excited to see the President of the United States apoligize to North Korea, Syria and Iran for saying bad things about them, why should America care if these wonderful peace loving countries have nuclear weapons.

But mostly he won it because he made sure Europe understands he feels the same way they do: Americans (Liberal Democrats excluded of course) are just a bunch of stupid, uneducated, lazy, greedy assholes.

The NPP was given to him for the same reason it was given to Al (I invented the Internet) Gore and Jimmy (Keep the hostages as long as you like!) Carter because they are democrats. You will never see a republican win and not because they don't deserve it, Ronald Reagan did far more to "strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" than Al, Jim and BO combined.

NPP has turned into a very bad clone of the Oscar Awards......wait a minute I meant the MTV awards... no wait the BET Awards is only for African "Entertainers", thats it!

He certainly didn't deserve it when he won, can we all agree on that? So, what has he done to earn it? Did he close Guantanamo? No. Did he end US military actions overseas? No. He's been killing people at a pretty decent clip since taking over. And he apparently has no qualms about violating the national sovereignty of other countries--as in Pakistan--to get it done. Has he adopted a more "soft" power approach to winning the hearts and minds of those in the Muslim world that hate the US? No. he has drawn up secret lists of Muslims that in his opinion "need killlin'" and sending drones to blow them into itty bitty pieces of blood and bone. Obama's drone attacks have killed thousands in Pakistan, many of them innocent civilians. Obama's popularity in the Muslim world is now lower than Bush's was when he left office. Don't get me wrong. I personally think this is one area where he has largely gotten it right. I just find it comical that the same people gushing about "heroic" Obama in these posts would be demanding Bush's impeachment for doing the same things. Based on the evidence in the record, if Obama deserves the Nobel Peace Price, so does George W. Bush.

It is clear to me that Obama could give his right arm, leg, ear and any other part of his body and still the far right winged part of this country would say, "not enough!" Many people in the USA can never support the opposing party who is in power. NEVER. Most people cannot even have an honest opinion formed by themselves, coming from their own prospective without the inaccurate ideas and opinions of "talking heads" from the very channel already programed in the TV remote. Obama ran on change and won! My only compliant is that if his administration had only stood up and defended their policies as successfully as the likes of Bush and Cheney, we would be that much ahead of this B/S game the right has promoted. Lastly,,,follow the money trail. The Republican base would be severed at their knees if they changed whatsoever the idea "no taxes". Once you set your own trap with bait from your own base, you will catch only the creatures you intended. The weathiest among us are smiling and thinking, oh, if only you knew.

Obama has been one of the greatest presidents. Our nation has not had any terrorist attacks and we have killed Bin Laden. his speeches are not a war on terrorism his goals are to improve schools and health insurance! Thank god we do not have another Bush or McCain in power. It is thanks to people like them that the world is angry at the US. I travel around the world and never have i seen such admiration for a president as I have for obama.

  • tom limperos - 13 years ago

President Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize for saving the United States and the rest the the world from John McCain.

  • Eric Clancy - 13 years ago

Democrat or Republican, this is an ever-increasing circle. As long as those who vote see only two bills we will recycle through the same corruption and lies.
Does he deserve the Nobel Peace Prize? Next to Martin Luther King Jr. or Mother Teresa.. probably not.
But next to Jimmy Carter or Henry Kissinger..ehh whats new?

  • Katie - 13 years ago

NO, unless he gets a prize for steering America more toward Socialism than any other previous President. Don't forget, Hitler was an eloquest speaker and he DIDN'T need a teleprompter!

@Kenn Really!? This country is in the position it's in because of Bush! If I recall the deficit was actually going down before he went into office, thousands of our citizens had not died in a war for oil, and the economy wasn't in such a bad condition. Eight years of Bush is why we have the problems we have today! Everyone was expecting immediate change, there is no immediate change to damage caused for so long. Obama did not stand a chance from the get-go, and when was the last time you saw citizens come to a presidential address with guns? Since his election this country has shown how much racism and ignorance still prevails here. In terms of him making a change, Republicans have made it well known he cant even tie his shoe unless they find it in their best interest first. Don't blame Bush, what a joke!

So many of you are right, he is really not like the pass "Great Presidents".He doing a bad job at stealing from other countries, making the rich-richer,and starting War's!!! He's just sitting there making friend where we had none, building ideal's like "Together we can make a difference". And standing on the front line for the pass 3 year's taking heat from people that are to blind to see...The Prize was not for what he has not done !!! But for what he has !!!

  • Don - 13 years ago

The real question should be, "Has President Obama lived up to his pre-election hype?" I'm afraid the answer to most is that he has failed completely.

  • Kenn - 13 years ago

@Robyn - Really? STILL blaming Bush? You cannot like President Bush's policies, but be fair when it comes to President Obama. He has instituted massive spending programs that have unfortunately not worked to the level he anticipated and racked up quite a bit of debt in the process. The failure of President Obama's programs are not the fault of President Bush.

Obama has so devalued the Nobel Peace Prize to the point that it has become a meaningless political trinket. Sadly, now all recipients are holding something that is worth no more than its scrap value.

Obama will go down in history as a one term mistake with not a shred of dignity, respect, or honor...nothing left but a shiny paperweight around his neck.

I am from Canada, now living in Texas. America is a great nation. Obama has mended many wounds the past presidents have made throughout the world. Unfortunately he has inherited a lot of problems of past presidents, debt, war and foreign policy. Most republican's know this but keep reminding people who don't follow politics the he has added debt. Almost every past president has agreed that America needed to borrow more money to stay afloat. But every debate, republicans keeps bringing up the same thing to get some easy votes from voters who don't follow up. Many but not all republican just vote against him even when they agree with common issues. Do republicans just want to get into the white house or do they want what is best for America? If they do what is best for America then they will have a better chance of winning the next election. God Bless America.

    The more important question is:
How did a small panel of Swedes become the barometer for human morality?

  • concerned american - 13 years ago

Obama betrayed human rights and justice by siding with aparthied israel against the occupied Palestinian people in the United Nations. In order to guarantee tens of millions in jewish campaign donations for his 2012 re-election, Obama caved in to the pro-israel lobby and ignored the entire world community. America is now more isolated than ever before because of their blind support of israel. Obama should pack up his noble peace prize and mail it to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

  • jja - 13 years ago

Obama hasn't done anything in 3 years, to justify anything. He is the 44th best president in the history of the country - he even beat Jimmy Carter out for ineptitude and that was no mean feat! After his various failed policies - Obamacare, Stimulus I (soon to have Stimulus II), Cash for clunkers, the various bail-outs, the country should be fairly well destroyed economically - but look on the bright side - we can all make new friends in the gubment soup lines that we'll all be standing in.....

    Hope and change HAHAHAHHAHHAHAHA......yeah..........

  • Roohi - 13 years ago

100% agree with Ashley & Robyn,.
I'm Canadain too, you American don't use Canadaian flags on your back packs any more since Obama made it better for you in the world. I hope Americans will smarten up & Obama will win another 4 yrs. Yes he can!!!

  • Len - 13 years ago

I agree with Robyn and David. Irrational feelings influencing someones political view doesn't make fact. Some people hate Obama because he's bi-racial. Some hate him because he's left of center. Some people hate him because of something someone else said that was based upon the previous two reasons.

  • Robyn - 13 years ago

@JD and the rest of yall hateful comments. If Bush wouldnt have left such a mess for Obama to clean up, maybe yall could appreciate the things that he has helped changed......

  • JD - 13 years ago

Ashley, you can have him. He has done more damage to our country than any POTUS since Carter. God help us if he wins another 4 years althoug I don't really think he has a chance. He is unfit for the job and has made a mockery of the Nobel prize.

  • Ashley - 13 years ago

Listen you american's be gratefull for who you have in power. As far as the Nobel Peace Prize, he does deserve it and you the American People should be happy with who you have as president. We here in Canada would be very greatful for someone like him. WAKE UP

  • Fred - 13 years ago

    I agree with John

  • John - 13 years ago

David, you are an idiot. Timothy, never bashed Obama. Morons like you, who don't know how to read should not use words like 'intellectual' -- all he said is that Obama has not done anything above and beyond his responsibility -- which does not qualify for a peace prize.

  • David - 13 years ago

Timothy, a biased comment like that is quite stupid. If you're going to bash Obama, fine. Please do it in an intellectual way. Saying Obama has done nothing but jeopardize our countries safety (which is complete and utter bullshit seeing as there's been no terrorist attacks while he's been president) is a terrible fallacy.

  • Timothy Mathers - 13 years ago

Not sure why he received the Nobel Prize. It seems that America never did get a clear answer on what he did as most most Nobel Prize winners do. Apologizing for Americas past policies that involve keeping the country safe sure does not qualify for a prize.
