have you consider the fact that the curly light bulbs ,which you are trying to use to replace the incandescent bulbs, have mercury inside?
how are you going to clean that up if one breaks? they do break you know....
energy savings (jury is out on that!) versus environmental fiasco , i believe i will stay with the bulbs in my home as they are.

I'm changing out my non-CFLs as they burn out too. It seems wasteful to throw away a perfectly good light bulb. I am mindful of the economics of CFLs and the environmental impact of my electricity use with both CFLs and non-CFLs.

my solar generates more electricity than I use, so don't make effort to switch until the ones I have are used up. Slowly converting but am more interested in LED.
My apartment has electric resistance heat, so replacing them with CFL's doesn't save me any energy. I use lighting sparingly, and during heating season, I can get light and a little electric resistance heat from my 3 way incandescent that I like for reading. I'm not adding to cooling load since I don't have AC -- I run a fan and leave the lights out. Simple energy management strategies for apartment living.
I use CFL's too for general purpose and for those lamps I may leave on for any time period. Also I wonder if all of them will be recycled, or if we'll end up with increased mercury in the landfills from people throwing them out with trash.
I have switched out all my general lighting, but not my reading lights. I tried replacing them, but the peak output on the bulbs seems to fade fairly quickly and just doesn't provide that bright contrast my old eyes need.
I have incandescents in the closet to use up. I am switching as I use them.
