How do you feel about the election results in your municipality?

Here in District of North Vancouver, the mayor got in by acclamation during the previous election. This last election, he was basically unopposed even though there was one other mayoral candidate who said she really didnt want to be mayor but spent the 100 bucks to run just so some questions get asked.

It makes me very suspicious because I wrote a letter to Mayor Walton ( of Translink fame ) when he voted for the increased gasoline tax and I made the point that since he was elected by acclamation, he actually had no mandate to be making these kinds of decisions on the citizens' behalf. Almost immediately afterward, there was suddenly a person running against him who declared she didn't really want to be mayor. It kind of looks like a setup to me.

So no, I am not happy with the result even if for no other reason than being upset about the deep apathy of North Vancouver residents and the total lack of any kind of communication from the council as to what they up to. We really deserve better.

The old right wing majority guard was tossed and more moderate Mayor and Coucil elected. That can only be a good thing. The old Council was completely dominated by business representatives, and while they returned two, which is good, - they should have a voice, but should not be dominant.
