Barbieri did show some leadership during those times, but what has he, or the board, done to improve things since? The administrative hiring trends have been questionable, and, like so many dysfunctional entities, just about everyone on the board has his or her own agenda that prevents tasks from being completed effectively.

A couple of years ago you could tell whether a student coming into our 3D Learner Office was from Palm Beach or Broward County. The stressed ones were from Palm Beach County. The departmentalization, pacing and test mania were driving kids crazy.

This board, staff and Bill Malone deserve a ton of credit for restoring some degree of sanity. A job well done.

Complaining publically about being stalled in the water does nothing to solve the problem. The Board seems more interested in getting in their "zingers" to demonstrate their wit than working together to solve real issues. It's not a reality show. In spite of how dysfunctional the Board is or becomes the schools will have to function anyway. Barbarism hurts, our community and our children. What ever happened to humility and civility?

Dysfunctional describes the last school board. The one that allowed Mr. Hernandez to be hired. Mr. Barbieri was the only voice of reason on that board. He is also the only one that understood just how dysfunctional and destructive the FCATS are. Mr. Barbieri took the time to respond personally to those of use who emailed him. Seems to me he's an example of how elected officials should act.

Of course it's dysfuncional, but so are ALL our politicians.
