@theofficeparties: reading/writing 140-character tweets make up a small fraction of what constitutes "spending time on twitter." The bulk of the time is spent consuming information that'slinked to from tweets, be it blogs, newspapers, github, etc, etc. So (1) this survey is misrepresentative of actual behavior, since most of the time spent "on Twitter" is spent elsewhere; (2), this survey is probably skewed because most respondents got here via twitter; and (3) the sentiment you express about Twitter users having nothing to say or read that's more than 140 characters long suggests that you are self righteously criticizing something you've never tried and therefor don't "get", and that just looks bad.

Twitter? Really? The MOST time? So you guys don't have anything to say that's more than 140 characters long? And (even scarier) you guys don't read stuff online longer than 140 characters?
Twitter and RSS are my portals to the web. I start there and follow links to find my way elsewhere, but they are my base.

My Twitter followings (including you) are news sources. I split my online day between (1) browsing news sources such as Twitter, Techmeme, Mediagazer, and a few select feeds on iGoogle; (2) answering emails; and (3) writing code, placing it online, and testing the results.

Twitter has officially replaced the newspaper for me. :)
