Joe Torre is a baseball guy through and through with a recent past with the Dodgers. He knows what needs to be done to turn the franchise around immediately. Obviously, he knows how to deal with players. I personally think he and his group Would be great.
But then almost anyone would be great as compared with Frank McCourt and what he has done to run a great franchise into the ground.

I love how everybody's reminiscing. It shows real love for baseball.

But Joe Torre isn't in the picture to manage, and he's not buying the team. Rick Caruso is who people should be talking about.

Have any of you been to Dodger Stadium lately? I heard there's talk that the Raiders might be coming to town - don't bother. You already need a Raiders helmet to survive the parking lot after the game. It's not as bad as the Lakers during the playoffs but...it's pathetic. It's not spirit or a family atmosphere like Anaheim.

To the point, Caruso, the man behind The Americana and The Grove knows how to put together a consumer retail experience! That's SAFE!!! AND FUN!!!! You know?! Bring the whole family and not worry about getting beaten up! :D

Locals are so used to the usual that they don't understand how great Dodger Stadium could be if it weren't on auto-pilot like it was under Moneybags McCourt.

Torre's only the cherry on top and the man knows baseball. He does, and he's beuna gente.

I'm all in for team Torre/Caruso.

I agree with DODGER1017. Out of the former dodger guys Peter has the most experience. He sold partly because he was tired with the "moneygame" . Besides he could hire Orel, Steve or Fred, for that matter. Glad Lasorda is still there. Cuban and Torre would be improvements, But Oh MALLEY!

Absolutely not.... He did not make 1 Dodger a better player and actually retarded their development..... Bringing Mattingly to the Dodgers was also a joke...
    Lets get some new blood.

Bozo The Clown would be an upgrade for current ownership.

Joe Torre is too emotionally tied to the existing management team of Ned Colletti and Don Mattingly. My fear is he will renew Colletti's contract, whose player trades and free agent signings have clearly been disappointing during his tenure, not to mention a waste of money.

If Torre hires a more savvy, knowledgeable GM who can build a successful team, then perhaps he'd be ok as an owner. Torre's knowledge of baseball does not equal a world championship, not even a playoff caliber team....he would only be as good as his GM....the guy who builds the team, as well as the rest of the front office and the minor league system.

Torre will do. He knows how to run a team from the field, and has numerous contacts to help him up in the front office. Regardless who wins the bidding, things are looking up for the Dodgers. Go Dodgers!!!

Joe is a legendary baseball man, first as a player, an anouncer, a manager, then recently an executive. He's seen it all and from all perspectives. He was there when the Dodgers fell apart as well. However he left them in good hands, with a rookie manager that created a close knit team that first started in taters but ended up going over .500 winning percentage. Joe is an upstanding guy, a guy with class, which fits for such an outfit like the Dodgers and how they should be known in baseball. That all said, there are still other potential bidders that may prove just as good. Bottom line is you want a commitment to bringing the Dodgers back to its former glory, hopefully another World Series Championship, which could be done with Joe, but then maybe Magic could do it too.

I believe the Dodgers need to get back to doing things the Dodger way. An ownership involving Peter O'Malley is a no brainer MLB. Not that Joe Torre Group or Garvey/Hershiser would be a bad choice. The most important thing for MLB to remember is to get some REAL baseball people involved.

Too old, too bland, too lacking of ideas or energy. It appeared that he “mailed it in” his last year as manager; not exactly a champion of the fan. Likely to be in over his head as director of operations.

    Anyone but McCourt will do

Torre has forgot more baseball than most of the people bidding on the team and he's a proven winner. Enough said , I hope he and his group get the nod.

    Peter O'Malley, is the MAN

The dodger need somebody who is nut about sports and is willing to spend to perserve the organization. I truly believe that Mark Cuban is the right person. Look how much he work on dallas. Let mark bring back glory back to dodger.

We need baseball people to bring this team back from the dead. Torre has an immediate past with the Dodgers and obviously loves LA. No more rich out-of-town crooks who don't understand what a great and storied ballclub this is--one that needs to be treated with respect and a love of the game, not as a piggy bank. I'm okay with Garvey and Hershiser, but wonder about their ability to sucessfully manage this franchise. I don't have any idea what either have been doing since they left.

If you consider hiring the likes of Yankees reject Don Mattingly as the best qualified manager for the Dodgers, then Joe Torre is fine choice.

Me I'd rather watch paint dry than watch a team owner by the King of Ennui.
