I raised my boys on sleds and I rode with them most of the time .I would like to see more entry level sleds(either smaller engines or smaller sleds).I think the biggest problem is that kids have to ride more powerful sleds before they are capable and don't realize how these sleds react under different circumstances.

Most people who are voting against this cannot probably or have not ever operated a snowmobile themselves. I agree that the more you let kids drive snowmobiles that the safer it will be for them later on. Maybe there need to be a limit on how large the machine is that they drive safe a 440 would be good for them but there is no need to take away the operation of them entirly. Anyways if you take it away completely they will still do it there is no stopping it. It is best to just make it so they can't drive as powerful of machines. It is like the boat lisense, if you don't have one you cannot legally drive a boat over I think it is 25 hp I am not positive on that but it is in that area and sleds should be the same way.

Kids 45 years ago were on skidoos that had half if not a quarter of the power that skidoos have now. It isn't the insurance companies and 'experts' doing this. Its the fact that people want more and more powerful skidoos, seadoos and even cars/trucks/vans. Kids 45 years ago didn't have to sit in a carseat/booster seat because the vehicle was probably lucky to get to 50km/h. Now tough they have the ability to get to 140 on a factory car and a lot of people will drive between 110 to 140 on highways or drive 60 and 70 through town. It is the users of these vehicles that are causing our kids to lose out on fun activities like this.

I don't believe kids can handle the power of snow machines now. These new ones have too much power and go way too fast. Kids can be easily tempted to go faster than what Mom and Dad have told them to do and as far as I know... there is no speed lock on snow machines.

When I was a kid, yes, we did operate snow machines. But compared to what there is out there for machines now... they weren't nearly as powerful or as fast.

should be same for quads, especially for the full size, high output machines. let them have the little kiddie machines. most adults can't handle those bigger, faster machines.

polldaddy.com, what the heck is this cbc? can we have pre-election polls here too?

yes they should be able to operate a snowmobile, kids 45 years ago did it why not the kids of today, yes there will be accidents and probably some deaths, but such is life. All enjoyable activities have been taken away from the kids thanks to over protective parents, society and the INSURANCE COMPANIES---our world is going the wrong way which is down hill and not on sleds either (which by the way, will soon be a thing of the past)---because a child got hurt and now the snotty nosed people of this world will insist that even tobboganers wear helmets to protect their little heads and the helmets will interfere with the sheer enjoyment of this great past time---life is full of hurts, bumps, bruises and worse always has been and that's how we survive by learning how we get hurt and what not to do the next time---added protection just makes us less cautious and more prone to even great injury more often
