Closing schools is not the answer with growing population. Our community was changing in a positive way, young families moving in..homeowners instead of slumblords buying the houses. When Herchmer closed that all changed, young families stopped buying. They moved around 185 kids to Wascana, what a disaster, almost 400 kids. They sure didnt get the same one one with 30 kids in a room. The school board holds these meeting for nothing, false hope they already had their mind made up.

I think with a growing population in Regina in all areas, we are only going to run into problems of too many children per teacher in the future. It makes sense at this point for these schools to close (it seems) but have they considered the future of these schools the demand that might be in the next few years bought on by immigrants coming to our city? It is always a sad day to hear a school is closing because it means more children are into large class rooms where their learning experience will decline due to lack of one on one time with teacher.

I think closing this school is so stupid. I went to Dieppe and it was a great school. I live in this neighbourhood and there is nothing around but the school to go hang out at. Take that away and all the kids have is vandalism to keep themselves entertained. I have grown up with that school and all the activities they put on. We used to go there every night just to go hang out and go on the swings. How is it a good idea to take away the only thing that keeps the kids entertained! I understand that financially it makes sense, but why do it when crime around the neighbourhood will go up because there is no where for the kids to go.

They are both in small neighborhoods that cannot grow in any direction at all so it's a good decision to close them. The only way they can keep getting kids enrolled is if families with older kids or no kids move out and young families move in. But people don't move that much anymore. Attendance will keep going down. It's not logical to keep them open if there's less than 200 kids in them. I don't want to see Dieppe close particularly but there's no way around it.
