What the iPad can do that a smaller tablet can't (no matter who makes it) is give you a nearly full-size onscreen keyboard.

It's really the premise of fitting the tablet to your hands, not the other way around, that made the iPad its size and no smaller. It's also why the iPhone/iPod touch isn't any bigger -- it's small enough to hold in one hand and reach the entire screen with your thumb.

Think very carefully about what you'd lose with a medium-sized tablet.

Why would anyone want a 8" ipad it would only be a litle bit bigger ipod touch.

10" you can watch movies nicely 10" is perfect , if its too big for some then get a ipod touch.

I purchased the Nook tablet for two reasons. One, it's small enough to fit in my purse (I refuse to carry a suitcase to carry an iPad) and the price was $249. It does most everything I want it to with a few exceptions. But I would prefer an iPad. I have the iPhone and love it but for me it is all about size and price. Come up with something for me and I will switch in a NY minute! I have been saving my money so I can get one when it is available.

An 8" iPad is ideal!! Perfect for use in the cockpit...big enough to display a moving map (GPS) and to be able to see frequencies and still be small enough and comfortable to lay flat on your leg of kneeboard.

I would definately purchase a fully functional Apple iPad. As long as it is not just an ereader.

Consider the difference between the I-pod touch and the I-pad. With only a few differences the I- pad is really a giant I-pod. So if this smaller I-pad is only 1.7 inches smaller, how much cheaper could it be? If Apple really wanted to embark down the path of something smaller they should make a pad, or pod the is in the middle of the I-pod and I-pad. Something around 6 - 6.5 inches. This way there would be something for those who can afford a little more than the price of an I-pod, but cannot quite pull the price of an I-pad. Over all I think Apple should leave the whole idea alone. We have started to come out of the phase where smaller is better. I bet Apple would fair well to actually go to a larger type of I-pad device. This would allow a good viewable screen when the touch screen keyboard is in use. Plus the idea of being able to view photos and videos on this would be a super plus. I currently live off of my I-pod touch. I am looking into making the move to an I-pad. I would not bye a small one. In fact I would I would love to see something like a 17 inch I-pad screen. Think about a single hand held device that displayed like that.
