If I'm correct, no CGI for the Godfather. Just a great story, well told.

My vote goes again to "The Godfather".
This is an everlasting movie, transcending decades, age. colour, race. It is the mother of all movies.
Thank you for these interesting and challenging choices. Let's see what movie wins the Oscar for 2011.
From my point of view, none of this year contenders deserve the Academy Award. There's no "Godfather", "On the waterfront", "Annie Hall", "Lawrence of Arabia", "All about Eve", etc just to name a few of the films that fully deserved the Oscar in the past.

Please .... Godfather is a boring ugly piece of work...not even worthy to be considered in the same league as Lord of the Rings
Made at a Budget of 6.5 Million USD back in 1972 which adjusted for inflation is 35 Million USD today , the Godfather had no predecessor to back it up. It's not a story about hope, inspiration or the general goodwill for the society in a good over evil sense. To top it all, add to it the studio owned scenario where Coppola had to threaten quitting to get things done.
Now compare ROTK which was made for 97 Million USD, had 2 critically and commercially successful predecessors behind it and Peter Jackson was literally made ' Lord of the studio' to run this ambitious project.
I think the answer is clear. And it shows in the vote meter as well. Luca Brasi might sleep with the fishes, but Godfather for sure rests in our hearts as the ultimate triumph of film making.
Easy choice. The Godfather has more heart
