There you have it NOT one comment in support of this campground no matter how falsely they dress it up!! And that's with, most likely , the majority of the people of Blackhead not knowing of the existence of this story and POLL. It's the people of Blackhead who would have to live with all the negatives of this business. This business needs to be placed in an area far from a residential community. Imagine placing such a campground directly behind homes in Cowan Hgts, Petty Harbour, Goulds or any other residential area. That's why ButterPot. Cochrane Pd,. Marine. Park and others are in isolated areas away from residential communities. The campers can party as hard and as loud as they want without negatively affecting nonexistent community homes. Commonsense must prevail. The character And heart of the community MUST NOT be destroyed for the sake of the almighty dollar. Why should the Majority, that have lived their life's peacefully in Blackhead for so many years, have to sacrifice their lifestyles for the sake of a few seeking financial gain.

This is the most ridiculous selfish business proposition I have ever heard. These people are money hungry and will go so far as to disrupt everyones lives in a quiet community, where most of its residents have lived for their entire lives. I would like to know how they would feel if someone was planning on putting an enormous campground behind their house. My guess is that they wouldn't want it either. The people who are against this idea are not misunderstanding the concept, they know exactly what will happen to this communtity if by some miracle this idea gets approved. These men have been misleading and lying to everyone in this community and everyone who has heard this plan. They have shown themselves to be very dirty and disrespectful businessmen. The intended site for this campground is nowhere near the east coast trail and no where near cape spear as they have advertised. It is along the drive to get to these places and is basically in people's backyards. They can say its going to be a family environment all they want but we all know who most of their campers will be, young people looking for somewhere to party in large groups. They will not turn these people away because that will take money out of their pockets. As well, because of this I highly doubt many families will be occupying their campground. The only thing that will come of this selfish idea is drunk loud people driving and running the streets of what should remain a quiet family community. Also, there are many people who live in blackhead who have children. No one will want their children around such an environment, there will be drugs and alcohol and who knows what else. Because of this, I believe if this happens many people will be forced to move to a different community that is more family friendly. The residents of blackhead live here because they like the peace and quiet which right now is potentially going to be taken away by strangers who could care less, yet these men wonder why people are so angry. These men need to go back where they came from because they need to realize the interruption they are putting into people's lives. We will never welcome you to blackhead. See you at the public meeting.

How did this ever get past the planning phase? Surely, somebody at City Hall has identified that this is a commercial enterprise (campsites, store, etc) in a residential neighborhood? Further, I've never, ever seen a campground in the middle of existing homes. I've camped at many private congested campgrounds, and they are nothing but party central. And this proposal in particular, is ideally situated for city partiers to let whoop. This must not be approved.

This is a ridiculous proposition. The only patrons of this campsite would be teenagers looking for a place to drink that is close to town but far enough away from thier parents. If I lived in this area I would be very concerned about this campsite.

A few concerns that I would have are: Will it be tent sites, will there be junked up, rusted out re-done school buses ( home made campers) planted there and will it become a slum pit like Cape Pond and out around Cochran pond. I can see the latter two panning out for sure. I can see why residents would not want it. I would not and I am not even from the area. The East coast trail does not run anywhere near the proposed campground area. It would be quite a hike for any of the families who wanted to camp there. I can see the place filling up on May 24 weekend with a bunch of hooligans that want a place to go that isn't too far from town. Quiet my a**. I have been to campgrounds and by the time the police come the noisy underage thugs are all gone and the place is destroyed. I hope the campground business fails.

The CBC employee responsible for posting this completely inaccurate and misleading poll should come forward and tell us just where their false information came from. It certainly didn't come from quality investigative journalism. Shame on you, CBC.

The campground will be positioned precisely in the middle of the residential community of Blackhead, and is NOT located near either the East Coast Trail or Cape Spear.

The individuals attempting to start up this campground have based their entire proposal on false and misleading information. They went door to door in the community, telling individuals that it was a "done deal" with City Council when that wasn't the case at all, which was obviously an attempt to silence residents who were thinking of opposing it. They also told residents that various members of the community who run businesses there were going to have their products sold in a "co-op" on the campsite. These business owners had actually never even heard of the idea! I'm sure those lies are just the tip of the iceberg.

How did this poll make it to the CBC website anyway? That's the real question that should be asked here.

My family and I have lived in Blackhead all our lives and love it out here. It is a quiet peaceful place that has been untouched for years and we would like it to remain that way. Anybody who takes the time to read this should understand what I am saying. I dont think anybody would like to have 200 to 400 people behind there house drinking and God knows what else. I have been on campsites and at cabins myself and I know what it is like nomatter what you try to do to stop it. Drinking, drug use, very loud and fire pits with the possibility to set fire to the woods and at such a close distance it is a danger to homes in the area. The individuals who are trying to set up this campgroung have lied to us and are doing everything they can to go against the will of the community. In my opinion they are only in it to make money and have no consideration for the people who live here. They should stay where they are because they are not welcome in Blackhead!!

Why would anyone think that it was a good idea to put a campground in the middle of a residential area within city limits? Those involved are obviously not concerned about the impact it would have on the residents who have invested in their homes and properties in the community of Blackhead. Not to mention the impact on the envioronment and wildlife. Although, it is obvious that they have given some thought into the art of deception. The east coast walking trails run through Blackhead Village, down by the beach. The proposed location for the campground is much further up Blackhead Rd. and runs behind resident's homes.

This is pretty sleezey. The people wanting to develop this campground have been presenting misinformation about this business project. The residents of Blackhead are almost 100 percent against this. These people know this and are now trying to gain support from people that don't even live in the community by linking the campground to the East Coast Trail. This Campground is nowhere near the East Coast Trail . It's in the middle of the community directly behind community homes. My family and I moved to Blackhead almost 20 years ago specifically for the peace, and quite and beauty of the community. Like most campgrounds, especially, ones placed right in a community they bring along with them a number of problems. This community is so peaceful I can hear my neighbors several homes away just talking in their yards. The lots out here are much bigger than in the city . We're talking 150 feet frontage and more. The sound really carries out here and that's inspite of the large number of trees that don't block the noise. Now place the campground in the middle of the community, with groups partying and drinking. So much for the peacefulness. Then there is the issue of disorderly conduct and drunkenness. The community has a number of small children that would be of concern. These are only a few of the concerns. This is not a case of not in my backyard. This is not a proper location for such a business . T he four people that want this don't even live in Blackhead and are obviously not concerned about the wishes of the residents .This issue has been circulating Blackhead for a couple of months now, with the majority of the residents making it clear they don't want it. Now we have this Poll suddenly appearing , as far as I know without the people of Blackhead being aware of it. It appears the support is not there for the campground so the search for away around this is on. Please think about the the effects on the community before casting your vote.

I live in this area and do not agree with a camping park across from my home where hundreds of people come and go from May to september each year. I built here because it is a quiet area and now the thoughts of vactioners next to my home for a large chunk of the year has left me worried.
Do we honor the views current residents or ignore them in the name of making money for a small few.

  • Concerned Resident 3 - 12 years ago

I work with surveys and this question is clearly bias. Dropping in the statement that this is not a scientific poll does not release CBC of its journalistic responsibility. This is indeed behind homes in Blackhead and a petition has been circulating within the community against this proposal. The question is vague and does not provide necessary detail to make an informed choice.

  • Concerned Resident 2 - 12 years ago

This proposed campground is directly behind residences in the community of Blackhead and as a resident I am not in favor of the campground. I am also upset that the question did not mention that this campground would actually be in the middle of a residential area.

  • Concerned Individual - 12 years ago

I agree that the poll is misleading as the campground will not be positioned near Cape Spear National Historic Site. The proposed location is directly behind residential properties which are located in a rural area of the province. To put a campground in this area would undoubtedly be harmful to the community, destroying the history of a small community only minutes outside the capital city. I strongly hope that this does not proceed.

  • Concerned Ward 5er - 12 years ago

As a resident of Goulds I would not want a campground behind my house. Although most campers are respectfull it can get quite loud and disruptive. Can anyone tell us where exactly this is going? This poll may not be representing the situation fairly.

  • Blackhead Resident - 12 years ago

The poll should point out the plan is not to put it by the East Coast Trail, its to put it in the middle of the community of blackhead behind the houses. Similar to putting it on trinity street, larch park or any other residential community in the city. The plan also proposes 100 campsites so 200 to 400 people. How would you like that behind your house?
